EARL STRICKLAND Returns to TEAM USA

Nice of you to twist my argument around. You should get your résumé over to Fox News, OAN, or Newsmax, if you haven't already.

I prefer making choices based on merit, just like you claim that we all should.

In the top player Fargo ratings for the USA, Josh Roberts is #11 with a 771.

Tyler Styer is #15 with a 760, Tony Chohan is #27 with a 752, and Chris Robinson-Reinhold is #38 with a 742.

And, yes, Earl Strickland is #8 with a 775.

But it appears that while players like Josh Roberts and Tony Chohan are indeed qualified, they seem to have been excluded for "other" reasons.

However, since you are so upset that someone would even insinuate race playing a part... perhaps Matchroom should make the Team USA selection process more transparent, so we can truly see how much "politics" really has to do with who is selected.

Until that happens, many of us will continue to be left with the impression that there is, and always has been, some sort of favoritism when it comes to choosing who plays in the Mosconi Cup for Team USA.

As things currently stand, the Mosconi Cup Team USA does not represent the very best that American pool has to offer.

Maybe we should all be a little more concerned with why that is the case.
Tell us again which games Tony and Josh play most of the time?

Sick of you racist pieces of garbage

How about after Tyler and Chris get back from the Mosconi Cup, they take their 15k "show-up money" and match up with some of the players who didn't make the team? Or do you plan on staking them?
Who the fk knows what they're going to do. What point are you so dead-set on making?? Some other race related bullshit??

I think he was referring to Tony's prison time, not his skin color.
Going to prison for drugs isn't really helpful in this situation. I don't see Matchroom as being racist in any way. Some people just have to play that card. Morons.

Let's look at past mosconi cup members and a few did end up in prison and were still allowed to play despite their history...

Very well could be. I have no clue as to the backgrounds of all the former players. I'm talking about right now. TC's record may or may not come into play. I don't think he's anywhere on Matchroom's radar screen. He is not known as a 9b player. Josh plays more 9b than Tony but he's still generally regarded as being a 1p specialist.

I know Easy, just meant that he (the m’fk’n Rocket) gets a pass for past lockups since he’s lighter skinned and can blend in.. Though the whole thing was typed with a silly grin. I wasn’t gonna respond and fuel the fire but it’s here anyway lol.

If you asked 6,000 honest and knowledgeable pool players why T-rx or Josh roberts wasn’t on the MC team they would likely respond with “why would they be?” Or “cuz they’re mostly 1P players” none would say “RACISM!!!”

I’ve seen Josh play incredible BB 8 ball and seent tony drop some 9 balls but idk. I feel super exposed playing 9 ball since I play 1P most the time. I know those two are pros but I think if 9 ball was there thing then that’s what they’d be playing all the time.

I’d have liked to see Josh on the team.
Me too. I’d like to see him and tony myself, regardless of anything else just to see how they’d do with that screaming crowd pressure. They both have an amazing coolness at the table that I admire.

matchroom wouldn't care if JJ picked tony, i think all that's nonsense. tony is one of my favorite players but he's also 40 years and not a young promising rotation pool player. josh is very likely on JJ:s radar.

They outta have some kind of 'play in' event and stream it. Wouldn't be hard to do and a lot of folks would watch it.
Let the capt. pick the two top dogs and let the rest fight it out in the octagon. Have Rogan emcee it with Mataya doin' the color commentary. What's not to like?? ;)

Isn't Josh also around 40?

I'm happy for Earl. He's absolutely one of the best players in the world the last forty years. Do I agree with some of his antics..........absolutely not. This will be his last hurrah I suspect but I hope he goes out in style and helps the USA to victory. Al Davis once said "Just Win Baby."

Looks like Oscar Dominguez isn't too thrilled about the Mosconi Cup selection process either.

Again, my point is Matchroom should make the Team USA selection process more transparent.

Otherwise many people, the Pros included, will continue to get the impression that there is some sort of favoritism going on.

I'm sorry if you would rather call names instead of acknowledging the unfortunate reality of how things work.

Did anyone ask JJ or Shane why he was picked? Can they control him as to say this is probably gonna be your last cup so let’s make it a good one!?!?

I haven’t read all the posts but I’m curious to know what is going on with the pic for Earl and conditions that have been discussed for his pick to play on the team.

In my opinion I like Earl to play on the team and in this format I find him to be an asset to the team as long as he doesn’t lose it mentally.

Interesting interview here. Oscar really says it all in the first minute where he talks about dogging a nine ball when he had a chance to beat Josh Filler in the first round of the International. After that what he has to say is pretty meaningless as far as I'm concerned. All reasons why he has not been chosen more for the MC team, when he has already told us what he knows he needs to do in order to be chosen. In this case, he is like many others who must make a big splash (like Bergman did a couple of years ago) to get selected.

I've said that I'd like to see Oscar on the team, along with a couple of other hungry players who have consistently been competitive against the top guys. As for me I would totally shake up that line up if given the chance. I like the idea of getting maybe four or even eight of our best players who are borderline picks, and letting them all play for maybe the last two spots. Put them under heat and see who shows up!

I once did two and half days in L.A. County jail, and I will never forget the experience of being locked up! It was a total BUMMER being inside a cage! And there were four of us (two bunk beds) in a cell no bigger than 8'x12'. I learned quick that you must be VERY polite and respectful in a situation like that. There is nowhere to run to or hide if someone is pissed at you.
