Earl Strickland

If Shane thinks Earl is up for this, he probably is...
I have no problem admitting that Earl is still close to being one of the top 5 American 9-ball players, although not even currently in the top 50 in the world.

However, to reward a player with a spot on this team with the kind of unacceptable tournament behavior Earl has demonstrated, particularly in recent years, is what many people have to question. It’s clearly all about ratings for Matchroom.

It's not about rewarding anybody for anything, it's about winning the cup. So... I repeat... If Shane thinks Earl is up for this, he probably is...

I'd like to just see a competitive MC. If the USA can win seven or eight matches that would be acceptable. I think the consensus on here posted by knowledgeable pool folks is that there is a much higher likelihood of Earl having a meltdown, rather than him remaining composed and on his best behavior throughout the event. Everyone seems to be hoping for a good outcome, knowing full well that probably won't happen.

Dude, he's played on 15 MC teams already, his behavior never changed, always the same, so why is this year so freaking special that some folks don't want him to play?

The entire MC team wants Earl, they interviewed them, and they all look up to him and want to learn from him. I don't much care about Barry Bonds at all, but if he wanted to play on my over 50 baseball team, he's in.

Maybe it is just me, but I am saddened and tired of all the members comments about Earl's past. Why not support him and hope he plays like the champion he is instead? I certainly hope NO ONE on the team reads this forum and the comments made about his past.. No wonder all the pros have left AZ.... JMO!

Acting like pool players and the sport are better than Mother Theresa? I mean, holy cow, it's fuking pool. Earl would not even get noticed if he played in MLB, NBA, or the NFL. In the NHL, he'd probably by the nicest guy in the league compared to the amount of fighting that goes on there. I mean, I don't follow hockey much, but damn, they don't trash talk, they throw 20 or 30 punches and the refs don't even break it up, lol Meanwhile, NHL is another Billion dollar business while pool players are fighting over nickels.

I like how matchroom has posted a few of earls past matches on YouTube. They definitely are stoked to have him back. I would like to see the viewer stats over the past 8 years to compare to this coming Cup

I see Matchroom is still trying to sell tickets for the live event. I don't know if they sold out in past years, but of course there was no COVID impact then.

The info I have is that Earl was on a flight with someone who tested positive. That contact put Earl into isolation/quarantine. Earl has had three negative tests recently.

I call bull SVB would be out for sharing the cab if contact tracing was the reason.

It's not his past that anyone is concerned with. It is his present behaviors that are good cause for concern. But it's a moot point now. It looks like he is off the team.

This is horseshit if he tested negative then let him play!! Or at least let him come into day 3 since that is 5 days after said exposure 🙄

I’ll take the under

I feel bad for Earl, I’ll tell you in private Jay. I know your not best friends with him, but as a pool player you got to know he’s crushed as a player and person. Empathy.

No, they would be second-order contacts. If everyone who was exposed to someone else who was exposed had to quarantine, it would get close to all of us pretty quick!

This is why Earl was the only player pulled from the event. Nobody else from team USA was on the flight.
This has nothing to do with Matchroom it's government in the UK.
