Earl Strickland

Earl embarrassed himself with very forgettable play at the 2013 Mosconi Cup and has had few high finishes in tournament play since. One must wonder where the confidence is coming from. If he'd said "I ain't no joke" after the 2013 Mosconi, he'd have been mistaken.

I hope he plays well and will root hard for him, but Filler, Kaci, Ouschan, Shaw and Alcaide all finished higher than Earl at the US Open. At the International, Earl also didn't finish ahead of anyone on Team Europe. It's possible he can beat them to a pulp at the Mosconi, but the evidence sure doesn't point that way.

I really want to see Earl play like he used to. His demons are nothing new and perhaps he knows in his heart this may be his last shot at the limelight. Maybe, just maybe, we will see the phoenix rise to fly once again. I for one would love to see that, cause I am an old guy now and can remember the days when I shot lights out and opponents got that look like, "WTF do I have to do to beat this guy"! It would be a remarkable accomplishment if he can pull it off.. GO GET IT EARL!!

What a Debbie Downer :(

sjm and myself have talked about Earl a few times and we are on the same page. I was at the Mosconi cup in 13 and it was an embarrassment. I was there with a coupe of friends who were not big players and I talked Earl up for days before the match. Earls antics nearly broke me as a fan.

I for one will certainly be pulling for him as he was the first pro I had ever played.
Earl can win sjm and myself over if he holds it together, win or lose...just play hard.

I watched Earl dismantle Shaw 9-1 at the Turning Stone 2 years ago. Never count him out.

I'm pretty sure Earl couldn't care less what 2 non players think about him, and I'm also pretty sure the whole team got stomped in 2013, it sure as shit wasn't Earl losing every match

Correct, it was not his play that bummed me out, I don't play great every time I get to the table either. It was more being proud of him for being there and introducing my friends to him. Later on during the matches I was let down with his actions.
That was then, I am hoping he has a great event this time around.

Earl said the pockets will be 4 inches this Mosconi Cup. He said they should be 3.5 inches. He says he trained real hard and "I ain't no joke.
That would be a huge change from previous Mosconi Cup pocket specs if they do indeed have 4-inch pockets. I believe they should be 4”, as with new cloth, 4-inch pockets will still play like 4-1/4” pockets.

if we're competitive EARL won't lose the match for us, however, he and Shane have punchers chance against a more talented team of leading us to a position where the last few parings are meaningful at which point anything can happen

It's just the opposite.

Earl wants the entire civilized world to revere him and he does everything in his power to conjure up images of Earl Strickland in his prime. He knows he can't fool or intimidate his fellow pros about the state of his game, but he also knows that he can win some of the fans over with his passionate, emotional outbursts.

I wish him well and I'll be rooting for him, but I wonder if he cares at all about how his fellow pros view him. His behavior says he doesn't care a lick.

Yes, he was one of several that played terribly in the 2013 massacre, but he lost every one of his singles matches, and that is on him alone.

dogging it vs playing well, losing vs winning matches is like a virus as it ravishes at team

when winning we're having fun, letting our stroke out, etc

when losing our jaws are firm, necks are bowed and we're working real hard just to come up a couple of inches out of line at the worst possible time

let's be close as we thunder down the stretch and see what happens

Show me someone who doesn't hate losing and I'll show you a loser.
