I Like PIE................Let Them Eat Cake

I have just heard (from good authority) that the European Team has been searching Las Vegas for a huge vat of mint jelly.
The European team has been telling anyone that will listen, that the American Team's goose is cooked......

Edited for additional cooking instruction info:
"Seal roasting pan with foil and bake at 350 about 20-25 minutes per pound of one goose.
You may need additional time if you are cooking more than one American goose at a time."

I, in no way approve of Earls antics, but if all he has done is make a few "little" comments during the match (not while the other player is shooting mind you), then we are ALL guilty of antics. Im sure there is alot of frustration from the U.S.A. team because they are not playing well, but you know the media is gonna find someone to target. And in this case its Earl. Not that its not classless on their (the media, Jimmy Wyche, etc.) part, but Earls past tantrums and classless acts have brought this attention on himself, therefore he should blame himself. JMO.

I AM AT THE CUP AND EARL HAS BEEN PRETTY WELL BEHAVED UNTIL TODAY AND THIS COMING FROM A CRITIC OF MUCH OF HIS PAST BAD BEHAVIOR SINCE HE WAS 19. TODAY I WATCHED EARL BE TAUNTED BY THE INSECURE EUROPEANS WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE UNLESS THEY ARE ALONE WHEN THEY ARE MUCH DIFFERENT THAN WHEN IN A MOB; THIS COMING FROM A GUY WHO HAS LIVED IN ENGLAND AND HAS MANY GOOD FRIENDS FROM THERE BUT RECOGNIZE THEIR SOCIALISTIC TENDANCIES. BACK TO POOL, EARL WAS HASSLED BY THE MOB AS THEY KNEW IT WOULD PISS HIM OFF AND THE EURO CAPTAIN EITHER GOT LUCKY OR WAS SMART TO PUT RALF VS EARL AS YOU KNOW RALF WON'T LOSE IT. I SENT RALF A NOTE LAST NIGHT SAYING I FOUND IT WEIRD THAT I WAS PULLING FOR EARL AS I AM USA FIRST ALWAYS.

EARL PLAYFULLY REJECTED THE HANDSHAKE FROM RALF WHICH CAUSED THE "KAISER" TO LAUGH IT OFF AS IT WAS JUST EARL AND WAS TO THE MOB NOT HERR SOUQUET. HOWEVER, THE "MOB" GOT ON EARL AND DRAGO YELLED TO EARL, "WISH YOU WOULD TRY THAT TO ME" IN A THREATENING TONE. I LATER RODE THE ELEVATOR WITH EARL AS WE RETURNED TO OUR ROOMS AND I ASKED HIM IF HE HEARD DRAGO AND HE DIDN'T. I TOLD HIM WHAT HE SAID AND EARL RESPONDED THAT THE JELLY BELLY THREATENING ME? HE LAUGHED IT OFF. HELL THE GURU IS 62 YEARS OLD AND GUARANTEE I COULD WHIP DRAGO ALL THE WAY BACK TO MALTA. I AM NOT AVOCATING EARL RESPOND AND FIGHT ANYONE BUT IN THIS CASE, I FEEL FOR EARL AND A SMALL PART OF ME WISH EARL WOULD HAVE HEARD THE ROUND MOUND OF MALTA. LEFT EARL SUGGESTING HE LET IT GO AND USE HIS TALENT TO HELP THE USA CLOSE THIS THING OUT; WE AIN'T DEAD YET BUT CAN'T GIVE ANYMORE AWAY.

TOMORROW WILL BE FUN AND I WILL BE AT THE 15TH NEXT YEAR FOR SURE.

U S A!!!!!

Too bad more posters didn't read your post before posting their uninformed Earl Bashing. What is pro pool A CUB SCOUT OUTING???

Every hear any trash talking in the NFL?

Every hear of John McEnroe who became a legend doing everything Earl has done AND MORE...and after his retirement the sport went into the toilet! The Sports Authority store near me didn't even have a tennis department last summer! Why? BECAUSE NOBODY CARES!

GO EARL!!! WE NEED TEN MORE OF YOU!!!!

Every now and again, when Earl's top blows over, it reminds me of my minority view in this matter.

Though I'm as tough a critic of Earl as you'll find anywhere, I cannot help but assign some of the blame for his unacceptable behavior to his fellow professionals, who have, as a rule, tolerated his deviant conduct over the years, rather than taking united and decisive action against him.

For reasons I have never understood, Earl's fellow pros never really understood that he was, by dragging down the image of their sport, dragging them down with him. Now they all have to deal with his act, and, at least to a point, they have themselves to blame.

He definitely should have ben suspended. The problem is by who?

Well, very interesting to read... So the Europeans don't know how to behave when they are in a group, or, as you call it, a mob.

I haven't heard from any european player behaving like a Strickland this year. In fact, I have never heard of a european player behaving like Strickland. This comes from a european player, who has the same nationality as Herr Souquet.
Darn right everybody should get on Stricklands behind, everybody knows he will snap sooner or later, and once it comes to that point, he is out. He is a psycho and does not set a good example, neither for the sport nor for the country he represents.

Btw, Souquet is the captain of the european team, and you can be sure that the move to set himself against Strickland was well planned. We all know what a classy guy Ralf is and it is just weak of Strickland to behave like that, but that's what he is; a bad sportsman.

Even though you are all right and violence should not be part of billiards, but I surely would have loved to see Drago kick Strickland's butt, maybe that would have shut him up for good.

EARL IS AN INDIVIDUAL AND ACTS THAT WAY; THE REASON THE THE EUROPEANS DON'T NORMALLY ACT LIKE EARL IS THEY PREFER A GROUP OR MOB-EVER SEE A SOCCER GAME? WHY ARE PEOPLE NOT MAD AT RODNEY WHEN HE CHALLENGED THE EUROPEANS IN DAY 1? ANSWER, HE WAS NOT EARL. IF YOU ...... CAN WORK THE SEARCH FUNCTION TRY LOOKING AT THE MANY NOTES I HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT EARL'S TACTICS AND I ONLY CARE HOW HE BEHAVES ON THE POOL TABLE AND NOT ON THE GOLF COURSE OR HELPING OLD LADIES ACROSS THE STREET. THE EUROPEANS TOOK ADVANTAGE OF HIS TEMPER AND I SAID THE CAPTAIN WAS EITHER VERY SMART OR LUCKY AS I DON'T KNOW WHO PICKED FIRST.

DRAGO WAS THE GUY WHO CHALLENGED EARL NOT RALF OR CERTAINLY NOT ME AS HE HID IN THE CROWD WHILE THE "KAISER" LAUGHED IT OFF. DRAGO WOULDN'T ............. FORGET IT. BY THE WAY, I CONGRATULATED DRAGO ON HIS HEROICS ON DAY 2 AND HE WAS RUDE TO THIS YANK CONGRATULATING HIM AS HE PLAYED GREAT.

BY THE WAY, MY CAP LOCK IS NOT STUCK; WHEN I MOVED TO ENGLAND I WAS TOLD NOT USE CAPS AS I WAS YELLING AT THE BOYS AND GIRLS AT AMERICAN EXPRESS!!!! YELLING? FOR THAT REASON, I USED CAPS IN EVERY MEMO AS THAT INSECURITY REMAINS A MYSTERY TO ME.

As,I said initially, the Europeans, Asians, .......I have met around the world are all great people individually and provide a network of friends for me and my wife. Our cultures make us react differently when exposed to the same situation. ( Cap lock off intentionally )

LET'S HAVE FUN TODAY AND IF THE EUROPEANS WIN; CONGRATS. MAYBE THE YANKS CAN WHINE AND CHANGE THE RULES BACK TO WHERE THEY WERE; NAH, WE WILL JUST SHOW UP NEXT YEAR AND TRY TO WIN THE CUP BACK. BEST TO YOU ALL.

Strickland amuses me because he is a dick. He's crap. His doubles partners must hate playing with him the amount of 'bad luck' he gets.

My favourite part so far was selling out his doubles partner Rodney Morris hill-hill when all the US needed was to clear the balls to win that match. After totally cocking up his shot and leaving the pocket blocked by another ball he walked away loudly saying "Sure it goes" as Morris approached the table. Feeling under pressure to take the shot on after Earl's comment <instruction> Morris dogged it, and sold out to the Europeans. If Earl had admitted his mistake or just kept his mouth shut Morris wouldn't have felt any pressure to take on a stupid shot that wasn't on. Team player my arse.

Is Mike Lebron on the U.S. team?

all bull shit aside I feel bad for him, I got into a small argument with him, my intent was to make him feel good and pump up his self esteem. I believe he is the best 9 baller ever-when everything is right. I have a way of bringing the best out of people, but not Earl. So I gave up-things were heading the direction when we were talking so I back off. I wish him happyness and sucess for his own wel being, I dont see that happng him being his own worse enimy. IMO he has to hit rock bottom then I sincerly he will make him a turn, he is cose to that point.

I look over the bad and did my best to make him feel him feel good and maybe help in a small way. There is nothing I can do right now, I know its not my business but I get a great feeling helping others when I can(and I'm good at it)but he dosent want that so let the cards fall where there may. Shame... He needs inner peace aside from pool, he has perhaps more 9 ball skill than anyone ever and its going down fast and hard, I feel sorry for him and the media making fun of him is shamefull and a discrace, why exploite others troubles?. I did my part and reached out to him, he slammed the door in my face-I'm not the cure all my intention was to make him feel good about for himself. He dosent want that, I believe he is only happy when he feels bad, shame.

Even thought he started yelling at me I let it go because I was in his spot for a short time when I lost my business years ago and I can understand his emotions, I picked myself up and am ok but its a long process. If He ealizes this perhaps he will come right. Thats more important than pool-his well being. I promote happyness and I do my best to help people in his spot-because as I said I was in that spot, not as bad but bad enough. I dont care if he never hits a ball again, there is one hell of a man in that body and I want him to be happy, His condition is feeding on itself. Look at his interview after he loses to SVB he sounded great. SVB is a friend but I believe Earl is capable of beating SVB if Earl was in a good place. No knock to SVB in 10 years he will be the man, he is now but time it the real test-and SBV will stand the test of time.

Down the road if Earl camr to me for help I would be there for him, not giving him $$$ but what really counts. I can tell he wants to be right and he told be he dosent care about $$$ and to an extent I believe that because of his state of mind $$$ isnt everything right now, when he is on track then the $$$ will matter more. Sure he needs $$ like we all do to survive but he wont admit he needs to settle down when he does then things will come right foe him, if they dont I fear the worst.

I hope he reads this, I believe he reads this site.

That really makes no sense whatsoever. You used caps lock when talking to boys and girls at american express?

I'm sure regardless of cultures around the world, Fully Uppercase Words are annoying to read in the English Language when used in large paragraphs. The large red font doesn't help either.

Lets say you're writing a letter to mail to a friend, do you use fully uppercase words when writing the letter?

Please give us that same courtesy.

Typing all capitals is frowned upon because it is much harder to read. Your posts are harder to read than everyone else's. It's as simple as that. That's why all the books you will ever see are written in lower case. It's much much easier to read.

This isn't new information. It's as old as the printing press, and I can 100% guarantee that you've been told this on countless occasions, so it's about time you actually learned it. It has nothing to do with your ego, so get over yourself. It is not about you. The world does not revolve around you. Nobody cares what you think. We just want your drivel to be a bit less offensive to our eyes. At the moment all you are doing is starting every post with 'Look at me, I'm a twat'.

lol, even if this is the case, why not turn the other cheek and prove them wrong? Why not rise above the others' attempts to unravel him and just play? Instead, he gives them EXACTLY what they want and shows his classless side and embarrases the rest of the USA.

I don't know, I thought he was acting kind of without class too until I started to really think about it and the more I do, the more I realize that I would act the same way in his situation. Yeah it's all well and fine to say you should rise above it, but some of us haven't succumbed to the pussification of America and the world and when someone treats us like that, we strike back. Not being morons we don't strike back literally with our fists, (most of the time, although there was a time when that was perfectly acceptable). Instead we strike back by not giving respect that wasn't earned. There's been many a tournament that someone who gets all the rolls to win that and who jibes me or even just does something reprehensible that I wasn't willing to shake their hand.

In fact yesterday I didn't get to see the Mosconi Cup because I was playing in a tournament where that very thing happened. I was playing an A player who when I asked how we were playing the tournament claimed that he was rated a 4 and that he should be getting a game on the wire from me and when I asked the TD she said that he also had the highest rating in the tournament and that we played even. Once I found this out it pissed me off and I played off the first few games. He got to the hill before I even got on the board and I managed to pull it together and string a few racks together to get within one game before I shorted a safety attempt and he got out. I wasn't going to be willing to shake his hand after that even though it was me and my inability to calm down sooner that cost me the match.

You can't, well you can but you shouldn't, blame Earl for acting that way when it was likely the jibes, the comments and the attitude and sharking of the audience that caused him to lose the match. I didn't see the match yesterday that everyone is talking about but I did see the other days and I have to say that on the second day all of the rolls were going with the Euros and there were shots that fell and safeties that occurred that just plain should not have and if that is what occurred in Earl's match with Ralf, I can't blame him for saying that he was luckier than good. Hell, sometimes I've gotten lucky rolls in matches and I felt bad about winning that way. I would much prefer to win from skill than from luck. My dad always says that he would rather be lucky than skillful, but I am the exact opposite.

Sorry for the long post but I think that we are contributing to the self destruction of a once awesome and still great player and it saddens me.

Drago probably has more talent than Earl ever had, as hard as that will be to believe by most Americans.

As for his antics, I didn't see it but he sure did make his own bed...

I think he has much history wil Ralf, I remember him acting like a Child in 200 5 when he played Ralf on the TV table. He refused to watch when Ralf was shooting, and at the end he famously complained that it takes ralf "2 hours to watch 60 minutes!".

I had to laugh at this quip but it got the chorus of boo's from the crowed it deserved.

Go Europe! :p

I think Earl is probably one of the most misunderstood players on the face of the earth. For the media to play video clips of Earl misbehaving on every single TV at the venue while Earl is playing against Ralf Souquet on the TV table stinks. For the audience members to throw things at Earl Strickland at the conclusion of his match with Ralf Souquet, with not a referee or anyone stepping in to stop it, also stinks. You have commentators who, by their own admission, do not like Earl Strickland. You got Earl Strickland practicing in the players' practice room getting harassed by media members, saying nasty things to him, while he is trying to concentrate.

I think a better name for this thread would be "Antics Against Earl Strickland at the Mosconi Cup."

That said, I believe that this year's Team USA unfortunately does lack in team spirit, and I am going to put it out there as to why I think so.

You got one American player staying off site, not spending as much time with his team members as he could be.

You got a couple other players spending quite a bit of time enjoying the amenities of Vegas, amenities that seem to be prevalent in Vegas more so than elsewhere in the world, when they should be practicing together as a team, like Team Europe is doing.

Then there is one American who's affected by pain and must pop pain pills on a frequent basis, and the pain pills have affected his personality.

Then you have Shane Van Boening, America's great hope, who's proud to be representing the United States in this high-profile event. It is a shame that his team members are not united strongly as Team Europe is.

And there you have it. That is my story, and I am sticking with it! Team Europe seems more deserving of the win than Team USA for the reasons I have stated above. If you don't give it your all, then losing is inevitable. One member of the team can't do it all. The team needs to be united.

JAM

It is sad that the US side is lacking so much in team spirit. Why would one of the US players stay offsite away from his team? Not a good move in my opinion. Also who is injured JAM and were they injured before they came into this cup? I also don't think that would have been a wise idea for someone who is requiring the high doses of pain medicine you mentioned to play in a match like this especially if the medicine is the type that can impair you mentally and phyically. It seems to me that there are just a couple players on the team that aren't really into it and its definately a shame. I just hope a miracle can happen and USA can rally and find a way. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Drago is a fine player .. but he has never seen a day that he was a good as Earl was in his prime.. But that being said . The European team is showing much more class and they deserve the cup this year. Maybe next year we will bring our best players and drop the DICK HEAD.. I really wish Drago would have kicked Earls' ass when he disrespected Ralf after the match yesterday.. Good luck to all and God Bless the Queen.............................................................................

Whether you are from Europe or not for you to say that Drago has more talent than Earl ever had is absolutely ridiculous and dead wrong! Earl argueably had more talent than anyone on the planet. He has inner demons like a lot of us have but there is no way that you can compare the two when it comes to talent in my opinion. Has Drago won the World Championships as many times as Earl has? Oh thats right he has never won it. Has Drago won the US Open 5 times like Earl has not to mention countless other titles? I think not. Attitude or not Earl is one of the greatest shooters of all time and he had/has as much talent and anyone alive.

Fatboy...with genuine respect, let me just ask you whether you think John McEnroe was good or bad for the sport of tennis? Or Vince Lombardy for football (who had a LEGENDARY temper...who screemed at the refs...threw his clipboard all over the place and once kicked one of his own players square in the ass)? Or Rocket Richard who I PERSONALLY saw climb up 4-5 rows into the stands (before there was any glass in a hockey rink) and duked it out with a fan that had been ragging on him for 2 periods? etc. etc. etc.

Regards,
Jim
