Earl !!!!

True, but it was balanced by Earl's whining during the match.

That's just Earl and I think everyone knows that about him. At least he has been that way forever. Honestly, I think he whines even when he's happy, lol.:p

John Schmidt said it best. He made a comment that Earl is the only player who can be winning by a large margin, running out from everywhere and still manage to act like someone just ran over his cat.

OMG! I so love that!

I want to attach tape recorder to John - I think that would be a treat

I agree. I mean, the guy just said "I think I played badly because of XYZ". HE is TELLING us that he didn't adjust to those conditions, and he believes it cost him the match. Where I come from, that is called being honest, not whining. You think good players get good by just shrugging off defeat and taking an "o well...guess he outplayed me, maybe next time" attitude? My guess is that Donnie just learned something about playing with boingy rails. Perhaps next time, he will adjust more quickly. I just don't get hammering on someone when they try to offer the reasons why they lost.

KMRUNOUT

Yeah, but he could have shown a little class and given Earl some credit.
No matter if he thought he deserved it or not. But he chose not to. That says a lot about Donnie.

I was just going to make a thread about this.

Finesse.

Watching Hopkins against Thorsten and Earl against Donny it occurs to me that the older players have a way of playing that is simply more masterful. They come with shots that younger players don't even know. They come with patterns that are often more sensible.

To me the younger players have more firepower, they are hungry to play. But they don't seem to honestly have as much knowledge. So when the older players have flashbacks where they get in the zone and their old firepower shows up and they are hungry to win then they can really show what pool looks like with half a lifetime of professional experience looks like.

I honestly think that if the older champion player is feeling good and has desire there is no reason why they are an underdog to any other living human in any given short set.

I agree 100%, John.

Go Earl!! boy he's playing great.

guys have you noticed the crowd? the chairs were crying for somebody to come and sit on them, but it was empty from the beginning of the tournament. then Earl played and BOM its full. Earl has the ability to taunt the crowd to watch him, because obviously he's entertaining to watch, love him or hate him, you would come over and watch him either to root for him or against him and this is what pool needs.

I was watching the stream, and a rl friend of mine came in and watched this match with me even tho he doesn't play pool or know the game at all, he doesn't know the players.

ESPN has said it before, and I totally agree, if pool has 3 or 4 Earl Stricklands it would be as huge as golf or tennis.

This is an interesting point. So given that Earl has far more experience playing world class pool than you do based on age, tournament participation around the world and results, is is possible that Earl knows more things about pool than you do?

Are you willing to give Earl weight since you think you are a much better player than he is?

By the way, there is one way to prove you are better than the old dead players. Just beat their high runs on the same equipment that they used.

The high run on a 5x10 is north of 300 or maybe even much more, I can't remember off the top of my head.

So all you have to do to prove you are so good that you could have robbed them is to beat their records in the game that they used to determine champions.

Should be easy enough if you are the six ball above them.
