Early action on the U.S. Open?

Does anyone want some early action on the U.S. Open? Here is the deal.

I was talking to Barry Behrman at the Va. State 9-Ball Championship this past weekend.

This year, there is going to be $100,000 added money for the 2008 Open and Barry is so confident that there will be a full field of 256 players; he is willing to bet $10K that the field is full.

Barry will accept a bet of $10,000 from one person or $1,000 each from 10 people. He will not accept bets smaller than $1,000 per person. Barry will also post up at the bank of your choice. The man is very confident that he will fill this field. Obviously, you will be required to post up too.

If you, or a group of you, want to wager $10,000 against Barry filling the field for the Open, contact me and I will refer you to Barry.

I?m posting this on several forums, per Barry?s request. Get your cash together and contact me ASAP. I wouldn?t want you to miss out on this wager because someone beat you to it.

What would prevent Barry from sliding in a few players if the field is light? I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to take that bet. IMO.

Wow! Are you serious??? The guy who is promoting the U.S. Open is trying to make a public wager that he will have a full field? Don't get me wrong, I am ALL for gambling, but this might be crossing the line. And people on here wonder what is wrong with pool in America!!!

I will bet 10,000 that Barry dosent win the us open how about you take that bet if you and Barry wanna gamble.

.....:slap: .....

I think this is the best idea by barry by far and think its great for pool. I don't care if it is a promotional idea. I hope he wins any takers.

Last year, there was NOT a full field.:scratchhead:

It is interesting that Barry Behrman is gambling on this year being a full field, but maybe he knows something that nobody else knows.

Maybe there's a contingency of pool players coming over from Ethiopia this year.

Personally, I don't like that bet and think Barry's got the lock!

One thing for sure, there will be a good time to be had by all in the Commonwealth of Virginia, come October 18-25, 2008.
:happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Barry can pay the entry fee out of his own pocket for up to 19 players and still make money on this bet. He can also pay the entry fee for up to 39 players out of his own pocket and come out ahead of where he would be had he lost the bet. It would take one hell of sucker to take him up on this silly bet.

In response to you, and all of the others who have commented on this bet, I am well aware of all the angles involved in this bet. I agree that it would be very difficult for Barry to lose. However, he already pays the entry for all past champions for this event and I doubt he wants to pay entry for a few more players.

IMHO, this bet is no more stupid than a pro caliber player offering the 8 to some hacker, yet it happens all of the time. If you don't like the bet, don't take him up on it. If you want to gamble, go for it. Barry asked me to put the offer on the internet and that is what I did.

And tonight, when ESPN shows the World Series of Poker on TV, all of the casino managers will think that is terrible for poker too.

You may be the only one here to understand Barry's wager. He probably won't get a taker on the bet, but he has people talking about the Open.

You are going to have to explain that one to me sir. How does having a large field at the World Series of Poker relate in any way to the promoter of the US Open making a public offer to bet that he can fill the field?

If I had the 10 Grand to spare, I would make the wager just for Fun of it. Say hello to Barry, I don't think I'll make it this year to the Open.

I took your post to imply that public gambling is bad for pool.

I think the general public is much more accepting of gambling than they were at one time and the popularity of the World Series of Poker on TV is a prime example of that.

A public wager, even if it is a wager that no one will make, is not bad for pool. It is just a little publicity stunt. Obviously, you didn't get that.

No disrespect intended Rich R, but any assumption that a stakehorse like billychips might be in any way at all against gambling on pool, public or otherwise, is probably almost on a par with cocobolo cowboy's recent offering of advice to Gulyassy on how to become a pro :p :)

My assumption was based on Billychips original post.
