Hello everyone. I just wanted to share a few pictures of my newly refinished early Josswest. I just received it back from Mr. Stroud and it is beautiful. It is so nice now that I havent decided if I should retire it or keep on playing with it.

This was verified as an early Aspen cue by Mr. Stroud. I guess that one way he could tell is because it has a 5/16x18 pin. Along with the refinish I had him enhance the sideways JW as well as rewrap it with Cortland to keep it as original as possible.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Nice JOSSWEST

I just picked up a JOSSWEST of the same vintage. I really really like the cue. It has blue black blue veneers. I picked it up from Troy here at AZ (KIDKOIN).

I got it because I really liked the style but once I got the weight right, (closer to 19 ounces), it really plays. I had a well known cuemaker make a second shaft of 13mm. Since picking mine up I have learned from several more knowledgable folks that the JW of that vintage came with shafts OVER 13mm, closer to the 13.25. I guess in my search that I have found tons with pencil shafts. I assumed that they started out close to 13mm but over the years from use and sanding etc they had got down to the 12mm which is common on these old warhorses. But imagine the use required to get from 13.25 to 12mm!

You can PM me and I will pass along cuemaker and price for shaft.

IMO these cues are slightly underpriced, but getting snatched up by knowledgable buyers. I would love for some of the old timers to share what these went for originally. I am guessing under $200 but thats only a guess.

Great looking cue, and I encorage you to play with it.

Thats a beautiful cue. Though clean and simple. Sometimes simplicity has soft genuine beauty to it then a lot of messy fancy cue out there.

That truly is a very nice Josswest. Having it restored by Mr. Stroud and Cortland installed was a very good decision.

I would say that you should be playing with it, that is what it had been made for and it has everything that would make it a great feeling cue. Congrats for it and have a great time playing with it.

In the early 70`s, just after Bill Stroud headed west, I would buy a new cue from him several times a year.

The basic cue with 4 points and 4 veneers was $115 with one shaft, $135 with two shafts. Shaft size was determined primarily by the person buying the cue. You are right, in those days a lot of guys would buy new with shafts slightly over 13mm.

Thanks!

Here you go, Ken. I've had this brochure since Bill was in Tulsa. I hand wrote the prices he was charging at the time.
