Early TAD?

To me the veneers are poor quality.

Ken

thats normal considering the age of the cue, that was "good" work back then. got to keep that in perspective, any cue maker now would chop it up, because they have taken cues to a whole new standard of precision. Funny thing is who's playing any better than they did back in the day? with poor quality veneers(i dont disagree with you on that considering todays cues).

ok i'm done, i think this is a great thread, its learning about a cue, forget the sale of it. I think to some extent we all come here to share ideas, learn, kill time, talk trash, pick fights, laugh, etc. Its clear this thread turned into a pretty good thread to learn on, and would be better if I had my Tad collection for reference(not bragging) I just have lots of Tads from different era's and could provide some input based on what I could see on mine.

this is for Kevin, sorry to hi-jack a great thread.

Its already at 1800 and climbing.

I agree with your numbers.

I don't think the guy is a bad seller, I was just trying to talk people out of bidding because I like the cue (although not as much now as the case is cool but not ultra).

I wasn't complaining about your treatment of me, you've always been fine to me. You were feigning disinterest (as a decoy maneuver) in a Gus cue I had for auction once and you were, in fact, interested. Much like me and this Tad.

Hope you are well,

Kevin

Honest to God I dont recall , Knowing myself if you had a auction i would have just made a offer and tried to buy it outright. Not arguing with you, you recall I dont. Perhaps it was when I was very sick and taking 10 pain pills a day and was in a bad mood, I went thru a rough patch(couple years) and it might have came across the keyboard unintended. I have always liked you since we met at Ernie's shop and read your posts. I feel bad about this, if I can do anything to restore our relationship name it. Seriously. I'm taking full responsibility for what ever I did, I've been off pain pills 99% for almst 5 years, i take 1/2 2 times a day to get rid of the detox feeling and still tapering off, I havent been intoxicated from them in 4.5 years. I hated them, had no choice and thats no excuse for what ever I did.

i know this should be a PM, but I'd rather man up publically and do the right thing,

Sorry to waste anyones time with this.

sincerely
Eric

STOP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL

You didn't do anything. We are fine. I'll explain next time I see you.

Bring TADS.

Kevin

Any guesses on the winning bid?

Any guesses on the winning bid?

I will say $3175. The winning bidder will have the usual buyer's remorse though. Worn finish, faded veneers and a warped single shaft will mean a quick flip at a loss.

Obviously the guy is letting the auction run, which is good, he turned down my $2k .

I'll take the under.

Something else that I'm curious about besides the veneers for the boxes is the piloted insert for the shaft. Were the earlier Tad shafts made with the insert that high and embedded in that much wood? I know that the oldest of my Tads was made in 1979 and doesn't look like the one pictured.

I dont know about that. but i have 7 vintage tads and all of them have mild variations in shaft pilots and material used and the way they are used. also have variations in pin height, steel collar thickness . and under the bumper is different from cue to cue.wrap length vary.material used on butt cap varies and butt length. i have butt caps at almost 3" to 1 1/4"... when tad, ernie,Black, stroud, schick, gus, george ect did there early cues they did alot of work by feel or hand. and trial and error is what makes them all so great today.. these were not production Thank God! Tad was one of the finest innovators..he showed thomas wayne and ernie how to do flat bottom points and the majorty of tads are (sorry to Burst alot of bubbles) he tought some of the greatest to do alot of tricks of the trade including gave the 3/8-12 pins to ernie.. they are the only ones to use that thread that i know of.. i could go on but need rest ----JUST STAYED UP TO BUMP THIS FOR KEVIN!!!! love you buddy!!LOL
