Efren Street Match...

I think it's hilarious that the other guy is always taking lint/debris off the table and even asked for the cue-ball to be cleaned at one point

...and yet they're playing on some open-aired community basketball court with powder on the side rails.

I suggest this is how all TAR matches should be from now on.
i think bugs keep getting crushed between the balls and rolled over..bugs flying all around the light..just need a good bug spray..

Can you imagine Earl and Johnny playing in that setting ? :D

Earl would be in a distracted, hissy fit with the people while Johnny be picking up lint and bugs. For every time Johnny picks up something from the table, a person should take a shot! :ok:

Unreal to see something like this in the pool world......Just when I thought I've seen it all, this comes along...Awesome!

Looks like an open air bar...this looks absolutely nuts!! Can't believe they're shooting a big money match with all these people wandering around, the referee pulling balls out in the middle of shots, the rack boy running up before the last ball is shot, etc....crazy stuff. No wonder Filipino players are so calm in our pool action...

This is a perfect example of everyday, "real time" pool in the RP. Nothing like you see on TV.

It's a three ring circus. Ya got all these "Table attendants" hovering around the table making sure there isn't a ball in a pocket? It's comical. Picking "imaginary" lint off the table?

"Please" just stay away from the table during my inning. I'll clear the pockets myself when I think they need to be cleared, too much to ask??? They look at you cross-eyed like it's an alien request??

All these "guy's" get "street creed" for being allowed to participate in the event. "I got to carry Efren's Jock Strap"

Reyes, the greatest player on the planet, the God of Pool, King of Kings, The Magician, doesn't care about what's going on, why should we? I don't care.

That's a typical scenario in the Philippines.

Some of the guys walking around and barking before the break are betting their own money on a per game basis, the others are "kristos" or middlemen betting for some big shots behind the scenes.

The guy (Don-Don) must be getting some games on the wire, and I knew him since he was in his teens, he's always been a choker when it comes to big money games. He's considered a "mahinang panerserra", or weak 3rd or 4th tier player, a weak shortstop.

I just get a kick out of seeing a crowd of grown men with their hands in their air doing quacking duck motions. Shit's hilarious to me.

SF, looks like standard equipment to me, with maybe diamond-like pockets.

(PS: just timed out trying to write this post. But I timed out right away at least lol).

The betting before the match is similar to cock fights. I won money at the only cock fight I went to in the P I but I had no idea what was going on.

this is an everyday thing here. Although I must admit I dont see a lot of basketball gyms being converted to a pool hall. But the atmosphere and the betting is a regular sight here whenever big names play.

I played a rotation match around 1980 under conditions worse than this. The table was open air on two sides, next to the railroad tracks, next to a bus station, and next to a main point jeep transportation central point. Every game is flip for the break. no flip until all bets are made (the breaker has an advantage). Sometimes its five minutes after the rack before the next game starts. I was covering about about fifty dollars a game. People would bet as little as 15 cents. People crowded against the two walls. Had to move several people on every shot that the cue was close to the rail. Played 17 hours. 90 degrees 90%humidity in the afternoon. Crowd of about 150 to watch two C? players matching up. They didn't care about the quality of play. its the action that counts.

I've played in a hundred of these places in the PI. Outdoor poolrooms under a tent like structure, usually with two open sides (sometimes three or all four!). All that running around are bets being made before each game and the guy who racks the balls and marks balls on close hits is the ref. He usually gets a nice tip from the winner (maybe a few thousand pesos in a match this big).

This is the reason why filipinos are shark proof, they grow up playing pool in an atmosphere like this. I've played the owner of poolrooms like this (usually the best player in the house) for games like 500 or 1000p a game Rotation, and had 60-100 people all crowded around watching and betting. I probably could have bet 5000p on the side but it was tough action for me. I'm definitely no Efren, more like Don Don!

This was a couple years ago. Played for 500 Pesso (aprox. 10 $). About 30 people were watching our game at the back of a sari-sari store. The table was resting on some cement blocks and it played like sh*t but it was great fun!!! Hope to go back there soon...

It looks like between racks the audience is making bets. The hand motions look very much like trading on a commodities exchange; they're giving odds - 3-5, 4-5, sold.

Personally, I think this is the way pool should be played. Lots of fun for audience.
