Efren v Austin Murphy Betting Action

I agree Jay, this match is just silly on so many different levels. IMO

One thing that isn't silly is that it will give the best young player in the US an opportunity he has never had, to refine his game against a master. That is an unbelievable opportunity to him and should be supported by us.

I'm astonished how cynical everyone is regarding Austin's participation. You know there really is a lot less difference is Austin's and Efren's pure ability than is generally believed. What Austin does lack is experience playing people of this caliber, and the mental fortitude, and what he will gain from it is immeasurable.

What a selfish and cynical bunch of people here! Lay off, sit back, enjoy the match, support Austin to win as many games as possible.

Go Efren, go. Although I don't know Austin personally, I would have like to see a more close matchup. But..... it's not up to me.

how is an IPT exhibition going to do anything for the playing ability of Austin? If Efren plays 100% then Austin is going to get crushed and I don't think that is what he needs. If Efren lets him win some games then how is that good for him? The only thing I see is that it will give him a chance to actually play him, which is good for him, but will in no way benefit the average viewer or the pool world in general. Maybe he should gamble with Efren, that might give him good seasoning. In either case, it is just my opinion and I will continue to state it. This is an open forum isn't it?

You're only allowed to state your opinions if they have merit. Just kidding.

However, according to your logic, nobody should ever play anyone of much greater level as there would be nothing to gain. I think about everyone here would disagree with that.

You're making two assumptions (1) if Austin wins a game it's because Efren will give it to him, and (2) Efren will not be playing seriously. I happen to disagree with those assumptions although Efren is clearly the favorite.

and I respect your opinions although I disagree with some of them. I think it will be great for Austin to get to play Efren. Hell, I'd like to play Efren. But, it equates to people paying their $20 to play someone at an exhibition. That is just how I feel regarding watching this match.

If Efren doesn't play at top speed then it just makes the IPT a joke. Efren should play top speed and let the chips fall where they may.

it's too late for that imo. The IPT has already made itself a joke with all of their previous clownish actions.

Lets go Austin-son, if play well...no can defense.
Southpaw - check your PMs.

For all the Austin lovers out there - after he is done gaining all this wonderful experience of playing Efren on the big IPT stage, I would like to offer up-
The Young Guns Challenge Championship Belt.
Feel free to contact Austin & tell him he can put up his IPT appearance fee & anyone else is free to join his corporation. As soon as you get $10K together for this next champion Austin Murphy, please please contact me or JCIN immediately.

is shannon murphy or chris bartram barred from the young guns belt?
Shannon - no. But I know he asked for the 8 playing 9 ball -- and got it. I hear he is playing better now. He can't get spotted anymore.
Bartrum - yes. He has been shaving since he was 11. Justin is 20 & still has not shaved.

Oh, if facial hair gets you barred, then I guess I cant play, i had my 10 dimes ready!!!!
It only gets you barred from being a Young Gun and contender for the belt. YOU should feel free to post at anytime.

Can I get in on some of this action? I'm on your side here watchez, but I would be willing to bet Austin gets less games than Morra did.

If you can somehow convince Austin & his fans to get up to the table, you can have 20%.

Have you got a 14 year old in mind?

Does anyone know if Austin ever gambles? I've never heard of him matching up with anyone.

I don't see anyone putting up cash for Austin against Justin without Austin getting at least 20 games on the wire.

Does the Young Guns Challenge include foreigners? Seems like that Ko kid might get some backers when he's in the US for the Masters.

My point to everyone is (and was not to hijack this thread) that Austin might be a nice player but people who compare as a fair opponent to Efren in his upcoming match is a joke. Austin, right now, (to compare to horse racing) is a $25,000 claimer trying to run in the Kentucky Derby.

I heard that Austin does not gamble - however maybe you could convince him that playing an action challenge is like being in a two man tournament.

I have also seen Austin many times in person. He is a nice young man, very respectful & shows great caring for his brother that is handicapped. I wish Austin all the best & give kudos for his 'win' in the voting. But everyone please be realistic in what it is.

Also, I swore off any of my friends playing any Filipino's, Asians, or Mexicans a long time ago. One year in Vegas, I left a good friend of mine alone for 30 minutes to go get something to eat with Gabe. We come back and he is playing King Kong $50 a game on the bar table and having no idea who he was, telling us that he has this guy right where he wants him. Gabe & me physically broke his cue down while King Kong was arguing with us that we should let him keep playing.

After the kids performance at the last challenge, I would say hes ready to play alot of people. He played strong hardly missed any balls. I am like you would say a Austin lover. I like any young pool player and am willing to give them encouragement and support. They are the future of the sport I love. I feel the same about Shannon, Morra, Justin and many many others. I am not sure of your postion here. Are you knocking another young gun? You seem like a cool dude and I hope not, just asking for clarity. There are plenty of other young guns that would like a shot. (kirkwood) To my knowledge I have never seen Austin gamble or even heard of him doing so.
