A friend says his Filipino bartender was talking about such a table, including a story about Efren playing on one. Is this a thing?

Haven't seen one of these in thirty years, but it was fun.

In thirty plus years of being around pool I have only seen one. It was in a little neighborhood bar in northern Indiana.
Was it the L table above or rectangular with four pockets per side or maybe something else?

I suppose you have an octagonal table with pockets at each corner, or a square table with a pocket in the middle of each rail.

There are lots of pictures for octagonal bumper pool tables but they don't have eight pockets.

Was he talking perhaps about that game that is more like air hockey and has cylinders instead of balls? I saw videos of those years ago from the Philippines, but forgot how many pockets they had.

I think that's the game called carrom, which has a square board and four pockets.

In the 90s they had a Z shape... well, think the tetris piece. It was like you took 2 tables, pushed them side to side so the corner and side pockets lined up. It was pretty neat but back then when pool was 25 cents a game I think it cost $2 or $2.50. We played on it once, it was fun but we were all just high school aged kids and just hitting balls for fun.

If I remember correctly it was a coin operated L shaped pool table with 8 pockets.

How can 1-15 or back pocket 9 ball be played? Or maybe play a front and side. What front? Any banking vids available? Add a windmill and play miniature golf?

I used to visit a lot of old homes and buildings. I think in an old plantation home, I saw a huge table. I don't remember how many legs it had on the outside, at least six or eight, but it had four more supporting the middle. This table had eight pockets. The table itself was eight by sixteen or ten by twenty. I badly wanted to hit a ball on it and had I and my small group been alone on the tour I would have tried to. I knew with eight people or so the answer would be no or everyone would want to try it.

A very nice table but the whole room was roped off so I couldn't see much detail. The eight pockets stood out, four corner pockets plus four side pockets! All of the pockets were evenly spaced. I looked at the table about ten minutes until the tour guide had to come grab me by the ear after the rest of the group had looked at the next room.
