A friend says his Filipino bartender was talking about such a table, including a story about Efren playing on one. Is this a thing?

Haven't seen one of these in thirty years, but it was fun.

In thirty plus years of being around pool I have only seen one. It was in a little neighborhood bar in northern Indiana.
Was it the L table above or rectangular with four pockets per side or maybe something else?

I suppose you have an octagonal table with pockets at each corner, or a square table with a pocket in the middle of each rail.

There are lots of pictures for octagonal bumper pool tables but they don't have eight pockets.

Was he talking perhaps about that game that is more like air hockey and has cylinders instead of balls? I saw videos of those years ago from the Philippines, but forgot how many pockets they had.

In the 90s they had a Z shape... well, think the tetris piece. It was like you took 2 tables, pushed them side to side so the corner and side pockets lined up. It was pretty neat but back then when pool was 25 cents a game I think it cost $2 or $2.50. We played on it once, it was fun but we were all just high school aged kids and just hitting balls for fun.

If I remember correctly it was a coin operated L shaped pool table with 8 pockets.
