> I had a Meucci ferrule replacement come in a couple days ago where the customer has cracked 3 of the Atlas ABS ferrules in the last year. He asked for a stronger material. I suggested to him that it may very well be the attachment technique (tube versus capped) rather than the material, but said he didn't want it changed to a capped ferrule either. I decided to get a stick of Elforyn, and see how that worked.

So far, this stuff is NICE. It cut very clean with sharp carbide, and parted with a continuous chip using a HSS cutter :). I was even more impressed with the way it sanded and polished,as long as you kept the paper clean.

I haven't hit a ball with the cue yet,so no input about playability. It seems like I read here a while ago that others found that the material makes an obnoxious noise when used a capped ferrule,is that the deal ?

Atlas was on the ball over the phone, shipping was door to door in 2 days for an order placed LATE afternoon too . Tommy D.

I cap all my ferrules, and elforyn is still at the top of my list of materials. It gives a soft hit. IMO I also like to use elforyn for joints and butt caps.

Oh yeah

Elforyn is a great material I just put a ferrule on a new cue and it looks quite a bit like ivory ...but I think it plays harder.......So far for an ivory feel I like Juma....Thanks for the post:grin-square:

I am of the understanding that it is fragile and cracks pretty easily.

Not from what I've seen. I've used quite a bit of it and have had no problems. I feel its quite durable. I've made plenty of uncapped ferrules with a 5/16id and not one single crack...if it was fragile then those ferrules would be coming back. No problems with joint collars or butt caps either. I know Markus at Eurowest made a couple of cues with the butts entirely Elforyn.

I guess I'm mistaken. I only used it for one ferrule when it first came out and never really liked it. I thought it was said in those early threads that it cracked easily but just now doing a search there is no mention of it. Guess the memory is getting worse than what I remembered it to be.

All I know so far is that it is expensive and smells like coconut suntan lotion...so it can't be that bad...Everytime I machine it I think of hot girls in skimpy suits...

I guess I will have to pass on this stuff then. Or I will have to spend more time getting my shaft polished:p
