End of the US Open?

No not at all. The trick is to not give players an option to cash. So they know if they play, the only option is a "qualifier spot" and if they don't take it then it goes to the next player without compensation to them.

That's the trick, and I'm not sure MR would want the drama of managing it.
Lol that's how our apa lo does the Vegas qualification...you gotta go to get the $$

You are just another old timer stuck in the past. Times are changing for pool thanks to Matchroom. I’m thinking more like darts than bowling which ain’t a bad living at all.

What an intelligent, insightful argument.

I’ve seen pool organizations and their promises come and go for over 50 years. What have you got? Oh, I know. Samuel Bankman-Fried is calling you from prison with a great investment opportunity, lol.

But hey, you’re young and brilliant ;-)

cream of the crop would back themselves to have there best 10 tournaments count towards there ranking regardless of how many events there are.
I think that's a good way to do it sometimes. If there was a year end ranking, it would give players who can't compete in as many events a better chance and someone couldn't inflate their ranking just by grinding in as many events as possible.

Let’s say it’s $60 to enter a qualifier. Say there is 64 players = roughly $3800. Say $1500-$2000 for first place.

Let say the winner just takes the money they made and go home.
I've actually dealt with this problem in qualifiers. They get the money after they play their first match.

That doesn't seem to work with the current qualifiers. This was posted above in this thread about a qualifier for the current UK Open:

For the UK Open, here is the info on the last qualifier which is nine days before the tournament starts. It's at a room in London. The UK Open is in Telford, which is a 3 hour/ $100 train trip from London.

UK OPEN QUALIFIER
SUNDAY 28th April
£60 ENTRY MAX 64 Entries
Double Elim to Last 16, Last 8 Qualify ( Subject to 64 Entries)
Races to 8, (Losers Bracket to 6), Winner Breaks
Doors Open 10am. Start 10:30am

With them qualifying 8 players, this seems like the best chance for someone who is in the area. Seems like it's pretty well arranged.

if you dont have to go the local place that runs them makes more money as they can run multiple ones. and end up sending maybe even more entry fees in. this way you get those that may go or not sure and those that just want to play.

and as long as you have pitiful entry fees for pool tournaments they will never grow and never get the video coverage needed for added money.

even the smallest buyin for most poker tournaments of any worth is in the hundreds. and smallest game played in the casino poker is 1/2 no limit and buyin is usually at least a 100 and most buy in about 3 to 5 hundred. and the tables are full.

60 dollar anything should be left to the local bar tournaments for the banger locals
just my thoughts. and years of experience around tournaments and gambling.

That's only because in poker, every banger thinks they have a chance. They could be sitting next to the world champion and think they could beat him if they get a few nice hands. In pool, bangers know they have zero chance.

Have you not seen what Matchroom has done for Boxing, Snooker, Darts and so on? This ain’t Trudeau or any other tour that’s been done before and if you can’t see it you’re blind old man :)

thats the whole point my friend. the bangers never have a chance but will spend and play if they think they do. so you cant make it so lopsided its obvious.
and bangers will be bangers and they really dont try to compete. but the very good players that do spend their lives and time trying to be a top player and willing to spend money competing, need to have a chance.
you have to give them a way to get lucky in some tournaments not necessarily win but to cash and be proud.

that also creates new spectators and they spend and expand things with new interest. it takes time. but doing same old thing with tournaments where the top 5 or 10 players lock up all the money only holds back the sport to the most addicted.

We've got a new 18 table Diamon room opening in our area, owner wants to have a pro qualifying event, anyone know who to contact?

For what?? Need to be a tad more specific. AFAIK MR is not having qualy's for the US Open in the States. You'd have to contact whatever group/tour you're interested in.

To stay with my golf analogies the US Open has local and sectional qualifiers for those not already exempt into the field. Last yr. over TEN THOUSAND attempted to get in thru this route and 64 actually made the field. So it sure doesn't look like having to qualify is any roadblock to dreamer golfers. In what way would this process not work for pool's Open? You could have a certain # of exempt pros and then let the rest of the field qualify. Dreamers would get their shot and the prestige of the event remains intact. BTW, in the golf Open players have to be a .4Handicap or better which would probably equate to a low-mid 700 FR if not a lil better.

Yes I have, but pool is not boxing, snooker, or darts (thank God).

And BTW, you sabotage any credibility your argument might have with your personal attack and make it more than easy to dismiss what you have to say out of hand.

Play them in big time pool rooms like Griffs or Q-Masters or set up an tournament in a casino like Turning Stone or Soaring Eagles it has a big event feel for the entrants. Other than that, I agree with everything here.

Yeah, contact the room owner and tell them not to put too much focus on getting pro events and instead focus on his business.

As for this news? If you're goal is to play vs the cream of the crop, I get why you would be bummed out but there's enough good events happening in the country where you can go and play against Open Level players.

Pro qualifying WNT event in USA is all.

He knows, but thx.
The owner is from Boston, good player, been successful in the Colorado Springs restaurant business for 20 some years in the downtown area.
He's well aware of this.
He's paying 10k a mth rent, it's a nice building, in the right spot, just off Interstate 25 downtown.

He shouldn't have much problem getting a WNT sanctioned event there. Just need to contact MR/WNT/Emily

I posted the contact email in another post. Don't remember it right now. I got it on the MR website. Not hard to find.
