Sounds like you know more than you share...

How much do the get now and what was the amount prior to the shrinking?

I was under the impression that the WPBA got squat, that they gave up any kind of financial gain for exposure instead.

I was under the impression that the WPBA paid ESPN to show their tournaments and that none of the players were ever paid for tv rounds.
 
You are correct. The WPBA pays ESPN to air their tournaments, and doesn't even get to dictate how many 'replays' are shown. There are no royalties paid, and no ESPN funds go to any WPBA players.

I dont think it matters what I think about that skit...It made it all the way onto SNL. Wait forgive me SNL took a look at pool, and this is the comedy they decided create. I wonder what thier inspiration was???

The WPBA does NOT pay ESPN to air the programming. We never have.

We pay a production company to come in and film/edit the event...but ESPN does not get a penny from us.

It's a common myth...and one I have corrected in these forums before. So I'm not surprised you thought that :)

But it is one of those things that keeps getting spread around...and so it is kind of a pet peeve for me. I will always correct that misconception when I have the opportunity.

Thanks Melissa - what I heard was that ESPN gives the WPBA $150K for the rights of the tournament but then the WPBA has to use a production company that is owned by ESPN and pay them $150K. Basically it is a break even proposition.

Now I know this is not true.

So does the WPBA shop around for a production company? Or have they always used the same one?

Wow...I have never heard a version of the myth that specific...or that far off base...LOL.

We have used several different companies in the past.

I think their inspiration was Kelly Fisher and Monica Webb.

The wpba has truncated their schedule. What's there to produce?
