Europe rocks

although my posts are loud, my intentions are good.

As a youth coach and pool lover I realy hope the US will get a proper federation with a good tour, youth programs, training centers and positive exposure.
Now, its just not good enough to compete in the world and there are not enough youngsters for the future. Work on it now or except that you are no longer a dominant player in the world of pool. And I miss the USA as a dominant player...

(look at all the European people that post here with their league's, youth programs, Eurotours, European Championships etc. etc.)

Not a dominant player in the pool world? That is really quite funny. While I will admit that America is no longer THE dominant player in the world, to say what you did is just plain delusional. And, as a favor, in your little fantasy world, could I not have injuries that require surgery? That would be great........

Pool In Switzerland

This is the room I found last year when I was in Zurich. One of the Swiss AZ'ers recommended it.

Great place with very nice tables. I think the name was Ist Billard 8?

THE USA is doing just fine.

If anyone is looking for some gambling action, they might try Marietta, GA.

I bet that would get streamed.

Thorsten is a good guy. Aside from that, like most winners he came here to the US to hone his skills against the toughest steel available.

In one breath you guys boast about the "size" of americaand its pool of players
then you decry players coming from other countries to play there?
Make up your mind guys

You are the ones that declare yourselves "World Baseball Champions" with the "World series"
When the World hasn't even been invited to take part!
That attitude is very obvious in this thread..

Heres the thing,,
You drive on the right side of the road and play "American Football"
in the UK we drive on the left and play our football (Soccer to you)

You have throughout your history played "Pocket Billiard" on 9 foot tables with 2 1/4" balls

In the Uk we played "Pool" on 7ft tables with "tight" pockets and smaller 2" balls.

My point is we have our differences...

In the UK soccer players earn $200k a week, nothing wrong with that its OUR game..

In the UK our "Pool" is still the predominant pool game played here.
So UK players who take an interest in playing the game on the larger tables come over to the States as I did from 1989-95.
You have more players and more tournaments, nothing wrong with that, its YOUR game.

You get my drift?

Coming back to the original point of this thread before it got all patriotic...
Is the simple fact that US players are not dominating as they used to...
Simply because the rest of the world likes to play your game now and has become pretty good at it.

It now truly is a WORLD game!

PS: One other thing that I know from experience...

Americans dont gamble on a pool table...
They will play for money, but only if they get a game they think they can win.
They certainly won't gamble LOL

"Pool's a great game, but someone always has to lose!"

In case I haven't said it lately, let me reiterate for the distant hard-of-hearing ears:

USA, ALL THE WAY.

USA, ALL THE WAY.

USA, ALL THE WAY.

There, now. I feel much better. Have a great day!

Well, I was hanging onto every one of your words but I guess I'm missing your point about Americans "don't gamble on a pool table". Does anyone "gamble" on a pool table if they don't think they can win?

Do you know someone not from the U.S. who will gamble on a pool table? Please provide names and contact information.

Thanks,

JoeyA ( I have gambled at "lots" on a pool table more than a time or two)

thanks for a post I can chop to pieces!

I have been in some threads lately where all sides had excellent points so a sitting duck is nice sometimes.

First, I didn't decry anyone coming to the US to hone their skills against the steel found here, I simply pointed out that is what he did.

A lack of knowledge of American pool history, our standard pool table was five by ten for years and we have played on both larger and smaller tables than the current "standard" nine footers. We have also played billiards over here for hundreds of years.

As for gambling, you are right. I have never gambled when I didn't think I could win. Neither did the person I was playing. I too would like to meet all the "gamblers" that will give me a game knowing they can't win. Bring money, lots and lots of money. I'll play for gold too.

You are also right about people playing America's game. The rest of the world now plays the dominant pool games from America. American football is now getting very popular in Europe after we put farm teams over there too.

As you say, we drive on the right side of the road. Obviously anyone driving on any other side has to be driving on the wrong side of the road.

ant no player in the world gonna show up for that action.

You never know. Some European player might have some gamble. :poke::wink2:

The truth is that like most sports, pool has gone global and there are great players the world over.

Maybe we can hit Obama up for some dough to cover a grant to start some pool education for our youth. He seems to be spending it on everything else.

Yeah! We'll change the name of 9-ball to Obamaball in his honor.

I have played for money dozens of times with the knowledge that I was not going to win. And I am willing to bet that most top players did that. It is called school money! (statement not made to compare myself with top players).

Funny story is that Efren and Busti were in the club I play and Efren went playing for some good money with Niels. Niels wanted long and though action so he asked me to keep Busti busy by playing him. Agreed on 10-5 one pocked for 70$ race to 3. I broke a ball on the break on 2-2 and cleared the rack. :)

But back to the subject: EUROPE ROCKS

...But back to the subject: EUROPE ROCKS

I am so sorry to hear about the rock epidemic in Europe. :frown:

Of course, everybody knows that America is the pioneer of pool, which is why all others are behind us in the progression. ;)

Just remember this, Berry. The higher you go up, the harder that fall is.

It will only hurt a little bit, though. I promise. Life does go on. :grin-square:

Let me leave you with a little song, Berry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sogKUx_q7ig

Make no mistake about it. We are...USA...Team USA....

The Dream Team ???

Mika has reportedly named the European Mosconi Cup Team the DREAM TEAM.

I hope the U.S. Mosconi Cup Team is their worst nightmare.
(Thanks Keith McCready).

Whoever finds the LiveStream for the U.S. first should start a NEW THREAD, titled "Mosconi Cup, the NIGHTMARE". LOL We should be able to have a lot of fun with that. I'm sure Roy from Norway will add to the fun.
