This doesn't seem to have a thread yet.

The draw is here: https://www.wntlivescores.com/events/european-open-pool-championship-2024/matches-list/1
(I think you need to sign up for a free account to see the draw and live scoring. I don't think I get any spam from mine.)

They seem to have filled a 256-player bracket. I think some of those were invitees who had played in qualifiers but had not qualified. There are about 14 from the US.

I see that for the US, Table 1 is going to be on matchroom.live and maybe also on DAZN. Don't know about YouTube, if any.

From snooker I see Gary Wilson and Tony Drago. I haven't see Drago in action for a long time. Wilson is getting to be a regular.

There will be a "Fillers Junior Open" on the 9th and 10th.

From a press release:

Selected Round 1 Matches
  • David Alcaide (7) vs James Oyangoren
  • Albin Ouschan (12) vs Carlo Blasi
  • Joshua Filler (6) vs Sebastian Rudek
  • Aloysius Yapp (9) vs Seo Seoa
  • Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (3) vs Thanasis Chronis
  • Anton Raga (19) vs Robert Braga
  • Fedor Gorst (1) vs Hai Long Le
  • Duong Quoc Hoang (37) vs Abdullah Alenzi
  • Pia Filler (120) vs Ernst Schmidt
  • Gary Wilson (91) vs Fraser Patrick
  • Eklent Kaçi (3) vs Vaggelis Seidis

Good info Bob. I have been wondering about this event.
I recognize all players on the left but only one(Seo) on the right.

Hmm. 15 players from the USA. And the most important question, of course, is why all 15 of them are listed on the left side of their matches in the Round 1 "Matches" list.

I assume no US player got there by qualifying and all of those are tour players.
....
Well, maybe not. I now see three that I'm pretty sure are not in the blessed 128.

First round matchups with highest average rating

Great stuff here, Mike. I am very pleased to see so many teens in the field. All but one of them carries a Fargo of 700+ and some of them will be the stars of the next generation.

It will make for a great story if any one of them makes a decent run (meaning top sixteen) in the event.

yea my point was like for walter, he's winning many of the elit swedish tour events now with higher rated players in them, he's improving fast and probably has a backlog in fargo that skews it a bit. i suspect that's true of some of the others too, like van berkel and gnadeberg.

kledio and the pinoy kids seem more accurate, but kledio comes from having played mostly snooker, and i guess the pinoys won't have a massive backlog from their younger days either.

seeing some of those young up and comers also kind of explains why fargo isn't something discussed much here in europe. those kids are improving so fast. vogel, laikre, pongers, van berkel, gnadeberg.. a 780 player doesn't have to love their chances against them
Any accurate rating system has to be based on historical observations...so there is definitely lag time for those on the improve.

Which supports your case for upsets!

Give um hell, Walter.
