Ever call in sick to play pool?....

Of course I have called in sick to play!...I NEVER went on vacation, so, thats how I used the time.

Now I have to get up, sneak into the garage, and call my wife from my cell phone to say I'm sick, but she never believes me!:)...she runs the office for my Plumbing biz.

Now that you mention it, I took off at 2pm today, and went to American billiards in Quakertown for a couple hours of table time!......I'm a slacker:)

LOL there are some funny stories here!! I would freak out if my manager walked in while I was on company time. I know I would get fired as well.

Luckly, there are no pool halls close to where I work now. When I lived in Atlanta, my buddies hall was right across the highway from work and I went there for lunch, LONG lunches sometimes. I would get back and everyone knew where I was because I smelled of smoke. lol That was a great company to work for and they understood my passion for the sport so all was good.

Never taken time off to play but have missed the day after a late night. Once just before Christmas years ago I'd been playing snooker on a Thursday night & got home about 4am. I was woken up by a phone call from work at 10am asking if I was planning to come in that day! My boss was OK about it, I just had to stop on the way to work & buy mince pies for everyone!

I do remember a story in England years ago about a guy who called in sick so he could go watch a pro snooker tournament. Well, his boss saw him in the audience on TV & fired him!

No, in 26 years before i retired i never called in sick to fool around..if i could get up and walk around the house i went to work..i valued my job too much and had to much pride and self respect to fool around..(OLD SCHOOL).:)

Have the pool bug so bad I called in sick to work so I could get some quality practice time. Happens every so often, am I alone here?

LOL, I don't think you are alone ;) ;) ---- of course working construction meant no work/no pay. Didn't go over too good with you know who. But I played not practiced so I got paid;)

Man I was in the middle of a set once and my boss walked in a fired me on the spot. That'll teach me to park around back. Luckily the pool room needed a mgr at that time so it was a blessing. :D

Funny, dude. REP to you.

No, I never called in sick to play pool but I was up all night playing pool (Sunday night) and I had to call in to tell them I would be late because of the all nighter. The boss laughed and I got 3 hours sleep and went in to grind out the day.

(When you're on straight commission and no salary) you get paid only for what you sell. When you don't work, you don't sell and then you don't get paid.) It kind of makes you your own boss.

The one other time I can remember was high school. I skipped school for one day to play pool at the pool hall that would let you in when you were 17, but I didn't have enough money to play all day.

I have called in sick to travel to a tournament. Yes sir. I don't think they found a sub either.

> Sure I have! I've also called and told my boss on a previous job that I'd be there, but was going to be late because I was in action too. As long as I cut them a jelly roll, they were cool with it. On the day of my house fire,I had to work 6am-2:30pm and tried to call in sick. I was told that if I didn't come in,I didn't have a job,so I went in. I had been seriously considering leaving at lunch and quitting with no notice to go play in a 20 dollar entry,500 added tournament that started at 1. That would have given me time to go home, take a shower, change, and get my stuff over there in time to warm up decently.

At 7:30,I got a call to come home, don't call just go home, and found my house on fire. I decided that running into a still-smoking house was a good idea if I could get to my cues fast enough. I don't remember the trip from the middle of the road to the porch, just 2 firemen telling me I had brass even trying it. Anyone else here like their cues that much? Tommy D.

Didn't have to---I retired from a fortune 500 company that had a recreation building with a pool room, swimming pool, bowling alley, full size basketball court, weight room, etc. We just ate lunch in the pool room and sometimes stayed a little longer.

i don't have to call in sick to play pool. If my work is done, they have my cell #. Plus I'm in the first state and my manager is in NC....you do the math...

called in sick

I told my teacher in the 6th grade i was sick yesterday. My pal said,
he wasn't sick , he was at the pool room shooting pool. Teach said, that proves you weren't sick either!! I was 12 at the time and skipping school to play pool!!!

I quit my job after a 16 year climb to the top! I was almost always having meetings or working when all the good tourneys where going on! Now I work part-time in the poolroom and have freedom to go and do whatever as along as I get someone to cover for me. My income was greatly reduced but now I don't have to dread working!! I have freedom to play pool, travel to tourneys when ever I want!! I called in sick for good!!!!

I'm self employed, so all I have to do is give myself prior notice, clear it with myself, and I'm ok. Just this past Friday, I left the house, headed to work and changed my mind. Figured I'd do a U-turn and head home, change my clothes and spend the day playing pool. Just as I turned off the engine and started towards my house, I received a mail on my phone from my wife telling me that she'd decided to take the day off! I was basically caught red handed, so I made up a story that "certain supplies" wouldn't arrive today on schedule, so I also got the day off too! "Isn't that great!!" Took my wife and daughter shopping and never stroked a single ball!!!

Have I ever called in sick to play pool??!! What kind of d***ed fool question is that? Of course!:)

Thank God I won't have to any more I finally (last week) landed the job of my dreams! I can do my work from anywhere and don't have to report to the office, just email my assignments and submit my monthly reports. So you know, some of you will be seeing me shortly! Just go easy!

Pool 101...

Planned or spontaneous, sometimes skipping work is required to play pool. I call this (Sick Pool). We must know Sick Pool fundamentals and it’s major hurtles.

First lets examine some basic statistics.

Work days 5 avg…hours 8 avg. Weekly hours 40 avg.
Maximum weekly hours available 168. WORK divided by MAX HOURS = 23.8% of our time is work.

Sleep days 7 avg…hours 6 avg. Weekly hours 42 avg.
Maximum weekly hours available 168. SLEEP divided by MAX HOUR = 25% of our time is sleeping.

At first glance over 50% of our time can be spent playing pool. 23.8 % work + 25% sleeping leaves 51.2% pool. Now I will show you the true hours available below and the need for Sick Pool.

Since most of us can not work when we sleep we must do the following…Max hours (168) minus Sleep hours (42), equals 126. This new number is awake hours. Now we use this new variable. WORK divided by AWAKE = 31.7%. So we quickly see that work just clawed an additional 13 hours or 8% of pool from our week.

Now we must recalculate the sleep percentage for another pool hour reductions. As established above Work and Sleep can not be done at the same time. So the following formula is required…Max hours (168) minus Work hours (40) equals 128 Avail Sleep Hours. So sleep really required 31.2% of our time. This is an additional net pool loss of 10.4 hours or 6.2%.

The Wife…or damnation of pool. Days 7...Hours 24. Weekly Hours 168.
Max weekly hours 168 divided by Wife Hours 168 = 100%.

Unfortunately Wife hours do overlap sleep, work and available hours. Since most of us have 2 weeks vacation, with the Wife taking 50 weeks planning what we are going to do for those 2 weeks…that leaves 5 sick days or 40 hours yearly or just 0.00457% of our time for pool…Sick isn’t it.

And if you have finished reading this…You could have been playing pool Stupid!!!
