I often bid everything I am willing to spend on something even sniping. The problem with going all in early is that it gives other people time to think about if they want to bump it a little bit more. Another issue for some of us with weak wills is that when we see the high bid is only a few dollars more than we wanted to pay we may be eased into paying more than we meant to one small bump at a time. Sniping keeps me out of bidding wars because there is no chance to second guess myself.

I've had my computer freeze just as I placed my bid at the end of an auction.
You can imagine my reaction after watching something for a week and have that happen.
