Generally people who refer to French tips they are talking about the 'old Champions' and they were the best tip in their day.

blue?

Back in the early eighties when I got my first milk dud, a treated elkmaster, they were called french elk tips. No idea if the name is still in use.

Here are some examples of what you're talking about, the old French Champion and Crown tips from the 70s. Believe that may have been the predecesor of the Chandivert company that continued to make tips a bit later than that.

I Doubt they were made in France, but they probably are the most used tip in history.

french tip

Its the same as an English tip, but instead of pounds you use Francs. An usual French tip is 15% but some leave more.:)

flared ferrule/french tip

I remember a guy playing a thin shaft with a longer, flared ferrule and the tip slightly wider. The room owner and big time gambler referred to it as a french tip. THIS WAS AROUND 1964 IN ST. LOUIS.
