EXPO day 3.....

After sleeping in late I went down to watch the Pros play. First match I sat in front of the AZB stream table. Let me tell you, Jerry, and Mike have to talk at a VERY low hush. They are really only 10 to 12 feet from the table without any obstructing plexiglass to hold the noise down.

I watched Frankie Hernandez lose a real tough match to Kim Davenport. It was a real good strategic battle of the young gun battling the experienced veteran. Kim looked very good at the table, and that was my first time watching him up close.

Next up was Ralph Souqet and Oscar Dominguez.....WOW!....great thriller. Oscar got down early to Ralphs all but perfect play, but Oscar battled back and took a 9-8 lead. He finished off the match strong with a great out. Let me say this, Oscar is impressive, he kept himself pumped up during the match but not over the top. Let me tell you, early on, Ralph got a few wicked rolls on Oscar, but he never let it get to him. That young dude has a real bright future. Only thing is I have no clue how he plays with that 9? mm shaft! :)

After some lunch I watched Shane lose to Corey....the match is what you would think from these 2 killers. Great run outs, and the winner taking advantage of a few mistakes....coulda went either way!

last match was Faquet vs Charlie Williams.....they both played great and went to the hill with Charlie just coming up short. This young guy Faquet will be a world beater in no time! if not already!

We left then and cruised the cues again....I have my eye on a Shurtz cue with butterfly points and no wrap.....we'll see tomorrow

We just got back to the room after dinner, so I'll try to update later.

Now, that's a great write-up. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm glad you thought of us unfortunate souls back home who couldn't attend and wanted to hear the smut!

Who is Faquet? Can you tell me more about him?

It sounds like you had a blast. I would have loved to have seen Oscar playing. He's sure a kind and very sweet young man, and it seems like today is his turn to shine brightly. USA, all the way, I say. Go, Oscar, go!

sorry sorry, right you are.....we walked out with 3 balls on the table and I assumed he got out!.....first lesson of a reporter huh:)

Faquet must be from Europe JAM. During his matches, Thorsten and the Euro crew were sweating his table and ribbing him when he missed :) The kid looks to be maybe 20 or 22 IMO.

Thanks, Gerry. I found an image of him on Google. They spelled his name as "Fauquet," if this is the same player. I'm not sure.

Here he is, holding a pool trophy. He sure doesn't look too happy about it! :p

He looks like a young Fred Gwynn(Herman Munster).

LOL! :grin-square:

I may have the wrong player.

Here is another French Facquet (first name Vincent).

Vincent Facquet, born in Forges-Les-Eaux (Normandy, France) on December 20th of 1968, plays carom billiards for the first time at 7 years old in his grandparents’ house.

When he’s 14, he takes his first lessons of carom billiards with Jean Noël Mary. He later qualifies for a carom training camp with Jean Marty, several times World Champion.

By the age of 19, he discovers English 8 Ball and snooker. He starts winning local then national tournaments of 8 Ball, and quickly represents France in Europe and the World.

In 1994, at 25 years old, he appears in American pool tournaments. In less than 6 months, he wins all stages up to the national championships to obtain the titles of French Champion in 8-Ball and Straight Pool. He begins an international career with American pool, taking part in the European Tour, World Championships and other Pro events.

His entertainer abilities quickly led him to be one of the most-renowned “Trick shots” performer in the world. During numerous exhibitions and shows every year, Vincent dazzles audiences around the world during TV shows, trade shows or private events. Participating 7 times in 10 years, he won 3 World titles (1997, 2005 and 2006) on both pool and snooker tables!

One of them has a full head of hair, and the other one keeps it short!

I wonder which one is the player who was in Valley Forge, or are they the same player, one with long hair and one with short hair?

Yes, it's this one, the hairless (not the first photo). I was watching him play a match on Friday.

The 17 year old kid who beat Charlie 10-9 was Dominic Jentsch. Ironically the kid also won Charlie's JUnior World 10-Ball Championship last year He is super strong and has great demeanor.
Charlie was playing good as he just knocked out Mika Immonen, so the kid earned it.

THANKS Allpro!

maybe, just maybe I had a few too many.....:)

It was funny watching this kid because I play much the same way. He takes almost no practice strokes, stays down on the ball, and fires away! yup, he plays great!

How'd you make out on the Shurtz cue? Bob Owen is a fantastic cuemaker with one of the best products out there for the players.

Fred <~~~ IMO, of course
