Longer cues..some say they are the answer
What makes them so special? is it the extra weight ihe longer length, or the change in the balance?

I've thought about this for awhile now. It seems like the majority of the good players are shorter in height, so a longer cue for someone who is 6ft plus would be the same size as a standard 58'' cue is to someone who is 5'6''. Just a thought. I dont remember where but in some billiard/pool publication or video I saw they suggested that optimal cue length should be right at your chin when standing with cue.

I can only speak for myself.

The extra two inches avoid the need for a mechanical bridge in a significant number of shots.

I like having my grip hand on the wrap area of the cue. With a 58" cue my hand is on the butt cap. I am 6' and play with a 60" cue.

I have a Cuetec R-360 and have been leaving the 6" exstention on long before Shane started doing it. In the begining I was just too lazy to take it off and just ran the rest of the rack out then took it off. In a short time I realized I never had to reach for anything on the 7' Valley...so I left it on. I don't even know it's on there. Some players can adopt to any cue...some can't. Johnnyt

Longer heavier

Bridge hand is 6 to 10 inches away form the cue ball and your other elbow should be at 90 degrees with your forearm and wrist hanging straight down.
.As long as you can do that the length of your cue is fine.......................................................

I am 6,2 someone taller then me might need a longer cue but it also depends how much of a bend is in your bridge elbow..

That is the science of it but every ones has their own personal preference overriding what we would consider solid training habits for developing a good stance stroke and follow thru.

as of weight. 18.5 to 20 in a half will work .for me.
Balance is a different story I like mine 20 inches from the butt.

Hand on the wrap, some cues are wrap less, and some cues you can have a extended wrap put on it.
Tons of options for a new to pool player needs to wade thru.

I`m using a regular 29" Exceed butt, a 30" shaft and a 4" extension. So I play with a 63" cue.
Cue weight is about 19.3oz and the balance is not a problem when using an extension.
So far I have only had positive experiences playing with such a long cue.
I`m 5.9 and have fairly long arms, so now I really can use my reach to my benifit.

So is it better because you can reach longer?
Effects balance though you say its not negative?
Effects weight...not adversly?

Weight and balance can be delivered as desired on shorter cues. The only spec that is unique in longer cues is the length. I like longer cues because I am 6'2".

There are times when the CB is positioned such that you want to use an extra-long bridge, either because balls are impeding where you can put your hand, or because the CB's an awkward distance from the rail, or because you're stretching somewhat. In those cases, it's nice to have an extra couple inches of cue so you can still use a normal back arm stroke.

I'm 6'2" and use a 59" cue, but I'd like to try out a 60", to give myself a little more natural stroke in some of these longer-bridge situations.

It's surprising how many shots are messed up because a player is trying to stretch to reach them. Even what most of us consider a short stretch can throw your balance, stroke and tip off track.

Yes you get a longer reach. I also hold the cue higher up, resulting in less wobble.
No it does not really alter the balance that much.
The weight isn`t that different.
I used to like 17oz cues, now I like cues between 18.5-19.5oz.

Its interesting that a 6" extension probly weighs 4 ounces.
How can that not effect the weight/balance?

I am only curios about this as I wonder if the extra reach is why some players feel the cues play good? Does it still feel good when you are on the rail?

I know cues tend to have "unique" hit/feel/ability ,and you can play with anything realizing the limitations.

Earl and SVB probably can beat me with a 41" or a 110" cue.
