Eye glasses for pool

FYI, I have lots of good advice on this topic here:

Enjoy!
Thanks Dr dave I checked it out. I like your content by the way. Great videos and your a solid shooter sir. I may try adjusting my glasses like you I am finding with the small lense type like you have it's difficult for me to not see over the bridge even when I have them up high. Worst case I'll bite the bullet and get a pair of billiard glasses. Forum member sent me a pic of their glasses that look like fast Eddie's in the color of money. I think they look pretty slick albeit expensive. I play at home so losing them etc is not a concern.

I think contacts are gross. I don't want to stick something in my eye everyday and I live in a really dry climate. I have zero issues wearing glasses just need to find something that works for pool.

{snip} --- I dont mind glasses at all just need to find something that works.

Brent

I bought oversize eyeglasses from this ebay-link several years ago. (maybe 2015?)
eBay - big eyeglasses
These glasses work very well for me when playing pool. (although the model is FEMALE these frames work well for a MALE face)

When I had cataract surgery in 2019 my prescription was altered. I ordered the same frames again --- with different lenses. As noted, this seller is able to provide lenses using your own prescription. I was happy with each order. AND - the price is very reasonable.

NOTE - these come from China so will take a few weeks.

This must be the 150th thread started abut billiard glasses.
Wake up.
Get contacts.
NO GLASSES on your face at the table.
They are unnecessary.
Very simple.
Bifocals, astigmatism, no problem.
Get contacts.
Some people can't wear contacts (like me).

Decot Hy-Wyd Sport Glasses are the best and they are made in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
I am Riley Pitchford and I started Pitchford Optical 30 years ago to provide quality prescription glasses for the billiard industry. The frames are designed to locate your line of sight thru the center of the lens when you are down on the ball, allowing you to see more clearly and have a wider field of vision.
Your prescription distance needs to be tailored for two feet to ten feet for Pool and two feet to 14 feet for Snooker.
Decot Hy-Wyd has been in the Shooting sports industry for over 70 years and makes their frames and lenses in house, and with the Anti-Reflective Coating reducing the glare from the lighting above are the best you can by.

Keep in mind, good glasses are more important than a $1,000 cue stick.
I'll tell you what's important to me and play.
Your focal point.
Make sure the lens are curved to eliminate reflections.
Do Not get the clear coat scratch coating, they wear/haze/scratch just from cleaning.
You don't need those snooker frames, they don't look good either.
Here is the particulars on my frames let me know.
Eschenbach....Titan flex 820568 60 145 CE
Been using em for over 20 ys and they look good.

When you get your glasses/prescription, just ask em (no extra cost) to also give you a prescription for a 10' or 11' focal point.
This prescription, you will use just for your pool glasses.

Special Eyeglasses for Pool are really easy.

Go have some made so the centers are higher in the lens so when you bend over you're looking through the centers.

You can do this a lot cheaper that you think.

I wore soft, disposable contacts for many years just for playing pool, but got tired of the hassle, irritation and expense. Contacts did provide really good vision though. Then I got a pair of glasses from this place - https://billiard-eyeglasses.com. They're excellent and surprisingly inexpensive, I wish I'd tried them sooner. They provide really clear vision, the focus is in just the right place and they fit very well. Prices on the web site are in Canadian$ so they're a lot less converted to US$. Highly recommended.

That is the best yet. Thanks for the link. I went to my local optometrist office the other day to look at the frames and prices and walked out. They were literally raping people when you can get everything at Costco for 250-300. On that site all of the options were cheaper than my local optometrist.

If you see my earlier post
I highly recommend this company
Cost to me was around $245 USD

Wow the Canadian guy is cheap, especially with the conversion rate! If you guys try him, definitely pay the extra 50CAD for the ultra thin lenses. All lenses are thinnest at the focal point, and thicker as you move away from it. With pool glasses being physically larger, and the focal point shifted higher, the bottom of the lens will be significantly thicker than your daily pair of glasses.

I am considering purchasing some pool/billiard glasses after reading this thread. I am blind in my left eye but use a contact in my right but it is a pain sometimes and difficult to put in since I can't see with my left eye. Funny to watch.

Anyway, my question is this, I aim from a standing position with my body and then get down to my shot. Do these 'pool' glasses inhibit this aiming method since the focal point is higher in the lens and therefore we wouldn't be utilizing this part of the lens when standing?

Any advice as to this from current users would be appreciated.

No, it works fine. You can see fairly well even if you are not looking through the optimal part of the lens. If things do get a hair blurry, just tilt your head down a little so you are looking through a higher part of the lens and then all will be perfectly clear. This is with single vision lens. I can't comment to the progressive lens, I'm not old enough for that yet:)

I actually just put them on as I was typing this message and the text can be read looking through all parts of the lens, but it is sharpest when looking through the top part of the lens.

I had a lot of experience in the past with billiard eyeglasses- thankfully now - ( with age) I see clearly without any glasses- go figure- lucky me!- Anyhow, from what I can see here- this is the best deal out there for billiard glasses. I would go with this guy's recommendation.

zenni.com.... You will not regret it. I am about to order my second pair in a mid range progressive, trivex lens material. Anti scratch, blue blocker, anti reflective coating for $85.00. Free shipping.. My first ones are great but are a distance progressive and I want to try the mid range. Good out to 14 feet should be perfect for pool. At these prices I could by 6 pair for what the local optical place wanted for one set of lenses!
Curious as to whether you've gotten the mid-range progressives yet. If so, how do you like them? I have a pair of off-the-shelf progressives that have magnification toward the top of the lens which makes them nice for billiards, but they tend to move a lot and don't stay in the proper position all the time. They are certainly better than a standard set of cheaters, and they were cheap, maybe $30 or so. But I have to believe I can do a little better. I just don't feel the need to go into the $400 prescription range. Thanks.

Here's an update to my Feb 9 posting about an eyeglass-possibility on EBAY -------

My vision-prescription changed slightly so I ordered new eyeglasses. I got another big-lens model from EBAY --- my THIRD prescription within this frame in 6 or 7 years. These suit me fine for pool-playing. If you visit EBAY, search for item 263425199280... then click on the description to find info about adding prescription lenses.

Here is an image...
EBAY eyeglass frames.jpg

The lens height is 52mm. That is about as large as I've seen elsewhere. The TOTAL cost for frame and single-vision lenses was less than $30 so I'm happy --- despite the 30-day shipping wait.

Great question because I have been considering trying them. But to answer your question, no I have not. But it is on my radar and seems like they would be an improvement over the distance progressives I have at the moment.. In the past I used DeCot single vision glasses and been happy. But given the significant savings of Zenni it is a no brainer for me. I just have to find the time to get it done, which seems to be my biggest problem at this time.. Being retired is hard work and takes up most of my time... Damn it!!

I will post here if I do. It won't be for the next month probably.....
