Eye sight issues

Hello,

My eyesight isn't too bad, i'm nearsighted. My eyes are -50 and -75, which basically just makes things a tiny bit fuzzy at the end of the table. Mostly, I have difficulties reading small things on the other side of the room. With that being said, does anyone think this would have an impact on my game?

I can't play with glasses as they are annoying and really get in the way when cueing down super low. So, I've been thinking about using contacts, it's just a little silly to use contacts for such a small impairment.

Thoughts?

Mine is slight also, and I usually put them (contacts) in on pool night. When I practice, I usually don't have them in, and I really can't tell much difference in my game. It is always nice to see a little clearer, but I just don't know that it helps me that much.

The same boat has arrived for me. I am right eye dominant and of course my right eye is getting worse.

I am also thinking about contacts but am reluctant....I won't have anything to blame then.:p

You'll never for sure if contacts will help unless you try. I wear disposable contacts (Focus Dailies) only when playing pool and it helps me hugely, though my eyes (20/140) are way worse then yours.

Disposables are pretty cheap ($1/pair) and I re-use maybe 6 times since I only have them in for a few hours at a time. For me glasses make the ball look small and sharp, contact make them full size and sharp.

Your eye doctor will probably set you up with some free samples you can try before investing in a box of them.

I couldn't read the numbers on the balls and could still put a 3 or 4 pack down.
But, that depends on how much experience you already have. Eventually the headaches made me learn to wear my glasses all the time. Took about a year to adjust to them playing pool, but now it is second nature to me.

Basically, you just have to look at your goals. Do you mainly just play league for socialization, or are you a player that gambles a lot of the time? How much benefit will you get with better vision, and how much work are you willing to put into it? (work being time to adjust to wearing contacts or glasses and the slightly different perspective they give you.)

I'm blind as a bat.... I can't see the big letter "E" at all at the Dr's office. Surprisingly, I've tried playing a few times with no glasses at all, and I can make the balls. Not as well as with my glasses, but it is quite interesting.

I might go try it now:)

My eyes are -75 and -50 as well. I have contacts and only use them for pool, shooting, or anything competive. They make a huge difference for me to be able to see the hard edge of the ball. I am also slightly colorblind so that may be a factor why it makes a big difference for me.

I take that back! I just tried playing without my glasses, and I could barely make a shot. lol

Find The Right Eyewear Frame & Prescription.....

Corey....if you wear sunglasses, then pool eyewear should be simple.

Find the best pair, most comfortable, best lens shape, etc. of sunglasses.......Ray Ban, Maui Jim, Oakley, etc.

Go to an eye doctor and get a prescription tailored to a depth of field clarity between 2 and 12 feet or anything like that.

I've worn sunglasses all my life and my billiard glasses are a Ray Ban sunglasses frame.

Wearing glasses that don't look goofy is the most important aspect otherwise you'll resist wearing them.

If you've worn sunglasses playing sports or just in general, then this should be a snap.

The pair in the photo on the left are my billiard glasses.......the Aviator frame on the right is another good frame shape to consider.
I have a extra pair of Aviator Ray Ban sunglasses & will be getting a back-up pair of billiard glasses using the RB frame on the right,

Matt B.

With me, my eyes went bad over time and I was able to mentally compensate for it. With the test you just did, you had an abrupt change in your eyesight, and couldn't compensate for it. I don't play very well without mine on anymore either. But, like you, I now wear mine all the time.

Im in my early 40s and I can get away without contacts on a 7' table, but not a chance on a 9'. My eyes went bad as a kid, and I wore glasses while playing pretty much until I got contacts in my early to mid 20s. I dont know your vision difficulties, but if you choose to use any type of correction, I recommend contacts. Your head and neck can get into a more comfortable and natural position, without having to angle your head to make sure you are looking through the eyeglasses. Its all personal preference of course, but to me contacts allow for a much more natural stance in regards to how you hold your head.

You can get by on the bar table...

But the big table is real trouble with that vision.

Get lasik if you want to play good pool.

Then call me for a free phone lesson to learn how to get them eyes in the right location.

Call me anyway. You need Perfect Aim: rolleyes::thumbup: even more before you get lasik.

Contacts are the answer for me. They can do amazing things with contacts now. They can get each eye exactly correct even if you have an astigmatism, which I do. No more glasses for pool. Hooray.
