When I get over the cue, I'm actually aiming a quarter ball left.
It doesn't happen every time, just enough to make life a little less enjoyable on the table.
I'm going in next Tuesday for a new prescription. I'm thinking of trying billiard glasses with a 3' to about 10' prescription.
I'm just not sure if the problem of the sighting to the left will stop after getting new spec's?
Anyone else have an issue like this?

I'm sure some very knowledgeable people on the subject will jump in and give some advice here, but it sounds pretty typical of a dominant eye issue. Geno has a lot of experience with this and helped me out over the phone.

a lot of people have this problem. They think are hitting dead center but they are aiming off center. If you realize you are hitting off-center, it isn't an aiming problem, but more likely an alineament problem... Try to get down on the shot slowly. Very important to aim before you get down on the shot... A lot of amateur get down on the shot and then they realize they are not aiming correctly... instead of getting up and reset their shot, they try to change the bridge position.... this often the reason why they are not hitting dead center or where they are aiming. I opened a very similar thread, but I'm not sure if my problem is on the aiming or in the grip hand or both.
bye

My wife does this and she has had lasik surgery done in both eyes in the last two years, so it doesn't necessarily have to be due to poor eyesight. She does not even realize she's doing it and cannot seem to correct it.

I had a similar issue,,,,not as severe though, just enough to hang alot of balls, which will get your but kicked alot,,,,,,,,,,,,Genomachino is the man for this job,,,,,,,you can't line up a shot if you don't line up your eyes first.

I had eye surgery a month ago and since then I'm playing much better, especially on long shots. I was not saying you are hitting off-center because bad eyesight, but because bad eye alignment.

I don't think glasses are the answer. Sounds more like the dominant eye thing to me, and glasses wouldn't change that. I struggle with aiming also, and I just got billiard glasses because the balls were blurry. Now the balls are crystal clear, but I still struggle with the aiming. I need to lock in on a pre-shot routine that has my dominant eye consistenly in the correct position for me when I'm over the shot.

It will mess you up for sure. When I align it correctly, it looks like I'm aiming off to the right, no matter what I try to do with my alignment of my head.
If I try to make a shot with it aligned properly, at the last second I will make a correction. A bad one. :(

Actually

I think the problem may be related more to the astigmatism of a person's eyes than their actual eyesight. With astigmatism, you lack the ability to see clearly at certain angles. I seriously doubt whether anyone on here has had more trouble with their eyesight than I have and here's why.

I have 20/1000 eyesight in both eyes, with astigmatism in the front and back of both eyes, and I have scarred corneas (from a pair of hard contact lenses that warped on me and took layers of my cornea off).

I wore hard contact lenses since I was 18, and for most of my life, except for 3 years I had to wear glasses after my corneas got scarred. The best my eyes could be corrected with hard contacts was 20/35, but most of the time my vision was 20/40.

3 years ago, my eye doctor put a pair of soft contact lenses on me. He did this because of the strides they have made with soft lenses, and the fact that astigmatism can be corrected now for astigmatism for the front and back of the eyes. It was a very good move, because now I have 20/25 vision and no problems with astigmatism. Imagine being able to see better in your early 60's than you have for almost your entire life.

Now, 20/25 may not seem like that big of an improvement over 20/40, but I can assure you that it is. I can now see shots, especially long thin cut shots, that were just 'fuzz' before. It improved my confidence in my game, and henceforth, my game improved.

My brother had RK a long time, but nothing is guaranteed, and he wears glasses now, and that goes for lasik as well. As we age, we tend to get
farsighted, and even lasik patients can once again end up wearing glasses.

I certainly recommend soft contact lenses to someone havin trouble with their eyes though. They have made tremendous progress with them, and they are very comfortable to wear. I wear the one month lenses, and get a 6 pack at a time, so I just order them every 6 months at a cost of $116 for a 6 month supply.

I think you need a cuppa coffee:

Hi there Shaky,
It sounds like you got trouble.

I have only seen this about 20 times in my teaching career. Some players for some reason are left eye dominant and have forced the right eye to work as the dominant eye. I'm not sure why this happens but it does.

If we're opposite eye dominant we do many things using out non dominant eye as the primary eye.

The players that are having this problem are almost freaked out when they realise how to see the shot correctly with the right alignment. Their smile goes from ear to ear.

Just give me a call. Be by a pool table. 715-563-8712

You might have some other medical thing going on but this is what it sounds like.

Looking forward to your call geno.............

I apologize if this post is a little off thread but I would like to chime in on the miracles of technology in regard to sight. I am 60 years old, I had to have glasses at age 11-12. I hated them so much that I stepped on them and went without till I was about 50. I then went from glasses to contacts and finally to being diagnosed with cataracts. I just got back from Gimbles Eye Clinic in Calgary where I had both eyes done. I'm here to tell you what a miracle it really is. I realize now that I hadn't seen clearly since I was 12. I have 20/20 vision now ands its like living in HD.
The first thing I did when I got back was play on my table. Incredible how bright the colors are. I saw divots in my cloth and details in my cue that brought a smile to my face. My game has definitely improved.
Granted the surgery didn't make me any smarter or give me a stroke but I can see my misses with remarkable clarity!!
Take care of your eyes my friends, never take them for granted. Next to your soul its God's greatest gift. Don
