Fake Aramiths on ebay being sold as Aramith's

OK, Rob_jerrylee: the shine could be a hint.

But still a bit difficult to buy from a site like Ebay, if they are used and the seller is not a truly recognized one.

(honestly I don't see a difference)

Here's the Super Aramith Pro balls.

Here's a 5 ball that has the same font as the Super Aramith balls. Notice the swoosh at the top of the five and at the end of the five at the bottom. Also notice how parts of the five are thicker, like the half circle portion.

This is what the five ball looks like in the fake ebay auction. Notice how there are no swooshes and the line that makes up the number is uniform, without any fatter parts to it.

Yes, xxmerlinxx...the 5 and the 8 are very different. But, if you look at the picture of the my sportcraft set some posts above, you'll see that the 5 and 8 are almost identical to the Aramith ones.

I was trying to learn how to know, only looking at pictures, if any set advertised as "Aramith" is truly an Aramith set.

Oh I see, you meant you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if the font was the same. Then like Rob demonstrated, the ball should have a mirror like finish to it, uniform color, and should not chip or scratch easily.

I can understand that it is difficult to tell if what your buying on ebay is the real thing or fake , you just have to know what your looking at .

You can tell the font from a aramith ball from another set .

Ok I just took picture here of the Cheap Set and the Aramith set

Ok the Cheap set is on the left and the Aramith is on the right .

Now if you look at the Aramith ball it has a slight hue to it around the number of the ball , the other one as no such hue around it .

After awhile you'll get the hang of know what brand balls are which .

Rob_jerrylee: Perfect! Those pictures were great and indeed they helped a lot. Thanks!

Also, in the picture, note the SIZE of the actual number inside the light colored circle, the "fake" (or Legion brand, Chinese made polyester ball) is SMALLER than the Aramith Super Pro ball !

Info does not harm, cocobolo.
I wish to buy a set of Aramith and has to be online, so if picture is not a very clear close-up I can ask seller for a close-up, and based on what I've just learned in this thread is less probable that someone sells me a set of Kung-Kiang-Pan balls in an old Aramith box! :grin-square:

The answer here is to buy your balls from trusted online retailers like CueSight. www.cuesight.com

http://www.cuesight.com/arspro.html

$132

I am here to tell you all RIGHT NOW that there are balls coming on the market which you WILL NOT be able to tell the difference between them and Aramith balls, not in color, not in the design, not by the font, not by the finish.

There are two companies that I know of which have some balls out that are the equivalent of Aramith's balls in my opinion. These balls pass all the tests that Aramith says make their balls "better".

So, if you want the Aramith balls then buy them from reputable retailers who stock them. Otherwise who knows what you might get.

Also, for those that don't know the difference. Balls vary in quality due to the materials with which they are made, how they are cast AND how well they are turned.

Cheaper quality balls are generally made of polyesther resin, have lots of impurities and are often out of round, have major weight differences, and are even not the same size in a single set.

Higher quality balls are made with phenolic resin which yields a harder and more durable product. The exact recipe is of course a secret but the ingredients are known to all ball manufacturers. It's pretty simple actually, better materials and a better production with tighter tolerances yields a better ball.

Buy Centennials. They're better looking anyway.... imo. :groucho:

If you rub your finger over the numbers on some of the cheaper sets of balls you will feel that they might be a little raised, also like JB Cases said the weight and tolerances on the better sets of balls are tighter. We sell Aramith Balls so if someone needs a price just email us at
