A friend from high school went on to become a millionaire in the cell phone business. He contacted me about a month ago because he knew I was into pool, he used to come over my house to play on our table, I used to go on the road, I play decent and have friends who are champion players, etc.

I was shocked to hear that he is now part owner of a pool hall that opened in a small Texas town about three months ago because of the influence I had on him. Actually it is advertised as a billiard academy with monthly fees to play and get lessons from better players.

He tells me that two brothers showed up to take lessons and started killing all of his instructors. That area of Texas is going through an oil boom and these two kids are from another country. One is 21, the other one is 18.

I tell my friend to bring them to San Antonio and let me play with them to see how good they are. The older brother shoots damn good, he could probably beat 95% of the gambling players in San Antonio. He shoots like a pro, low down on the cue, nice smooth stroke, etc. He runs out any open table of nine ball. I told him that the best players in town give me the five ball and I come about even with them. So we play for about an hour with me getting the five ball and we come out about even. With the five ball spot I can run two or three racks but this kid just keeps coming back with full rack runouts.

Then my friend has a huge grin on his face and tells me to play the other brother. The younger brother is an obvious special needs kid from the look of him. We play some nine ball and he just runs out again and again. He is constantly licking his lips, he chalks his cue about ten times before each shot, he is constantly asking for new chalk. He has this huge grin on his face the whole time. When I leave him safe he just kicks the ball in or he will shoot a three rail through traffic like it was nothing. I get the orange crush, the five and the breaks and he pulls ahead.

I am figuring he is an Idiot Savant, he can see three or four rail shots, kicks, angle of where to hit the object ball and speed, etc. Also his stance is nothing like his brothers who looks like a pool players. This kid stands just about straight up, hardly does any practice strokes and just keep making balls.

So my friend wants to take them on the road, any suggestions on how to make some real money off of these two kids. My friend has the money to be able to go to towns and spend enough time there with these two kids to really work the players.

Have him do what the Chinese did.... Walk into any room play anyone that wants to gamble and write em a check if they win from the Bank of China.... I am of course assuming he wants the kids to be champions and not just lock smith local short stops.......

It's really tough. short road today..............

Hi there and I like your enthusiasm But,

The days of going on the road and trying to make money are all but done. Sure you can make a little but after a few poolhalls or towns find out how they play and get a line on these 2 kids everyone else can take a picture and put it on the web and action is ruined.

Today expenses are way too high also. Gas, motel and eating on the road is just too high.

There is no good way to do it. If you book a loser then your really in trouble. And unless you've been there and done that it's a very tough road.

First finding the action and then trying to make some money.

Good luck whatever you do. geno............

Yeah you just hustled backwards by describing them. Best to just enter them into tournaments everywhere if the guy has money like that.

San Antonio is hardly a place to gauge a young player. The level of play is very low and hardly any gamblers here.
John Drew is here though and always willing to do something. he though is not going to play $20 sets.
PM me and I can get you set up there very easily.

honestly you had better put these kids up against someone who can actually play, ans see how they stack up.

here in columbus we have alot of great players but none of them can beat the "pros" of this game and a ton of them have tried to make it on the road and have no success, Chris, Dee, and Corey are the biggest success stories for around here. and they got there by playing people better than themselves.

Good luck if you do go on the road, hopefully your rich friend can give you a hefty bankroll.

Bring your idiot savant to the U.S. Open in two weeks. He can win thirty grand there!

How about sharing the name and location of this billiard academy....please
randyg

You beat me to it, he killed his own action!

Only if he is intending to hustle. I heard that when one player hit the road, his uncle would put up the request of "Bring me the Best" when hitting a new town.

also..

...beware of competing with people who are smiling or grinning the whole time they're going against you, whether it be pool, basketball, or fighting........

...kinda reminds me of Eddie Felson's face just before he banked that cueball frozen to the eight ball against the rail for the $105 (one week's commission) in the movie........

Anyone licking their lips constantly and running out from everywhere is not an idiot savant but is instead chemically enhanced.

Interesting story, sounds fictional.

But in case it's true have your millionaire friend buy up a bunch of APA patches on Ebay and make them a couple jackets with the patches all over them. Get a Cuetec case and write this on it in gold marker pen "property of TRAVIS TROTTER" on it.

Put a counterfeit signature of Allison Fisher on it with this dedication, "Keep working Travis and someday you WILL beat your Dad!" Love Allie

Next put up some YouTube videos of you practicing many aiming systems while missing most of the shots you try. Whenever you go to a new pool room make sure you show everyone your videos and ask them if they know how to do the aiming systems.

Tell them that on AZB you learned that to get really good you have to gamble and so you are on the road with your inheritance trying to gamble to get good enough to play in pro events or make it to an APA 7 at least.

Then you will have all the action you can stand all over the country.

Send me a PM and I can set your boys up with two to four places they can win enough for a year. Your friend will have to spend about a month in each place.
