Fargo ratings men vs women

So if we don't just line-up like trained seals and accept everything your algorithm's spit out we're wrong, right? I mean that's what it sounds like. I agree with a lot of what FR does/says but not all. I'm not real big on putting 100% stock in what some computer spits out. No way the FR is without its flaws. Doesn't really matter as i don't play any FR events anyway. I never got a FR established when i was sick and now every event want 3-400 robustness to play. That's never gonna happen.
This isn't about whether FargoRate has flaws or whether you do or don't get games into the system.

It's about whether women who get their rating largely playing other women have a rating that is somehow soft compared to another player who gets a rating largely from play against generally stronger men.

And the answer to that is no.
Not kinda no
Not no in theory
Not geeky computer no.
Just no.

The ONLY possible way is if the women are playing talent as tough as the men. Women usually play other women and its easier to get a higher FR. At a rating as high as 790 they probably would be very close. I know a few gals in the 550-600 range that only play other women and there's NO way they're as good as their male counterparts of the same speed.
It is also possible if the results show them playing at a higher level. Say a female is beating the top existing women players by a decent margin, 750 opponents, and they are winning 11-5, 9-3, 9-5, 11-6, etc... Fargo will give that woman an 800 or so rating even though she has not played any 800 level players. You don't need equal opponents to get a correct handicap level, you just need to know what results others have to compare to. In anything really, it will work the same way. If you have a race car and it beats cars to the line that are known to do 10 second 1/4-mile runs, you know that car will be able to hang with the 9 second cars, even without ever timing that car directly.

The issue with your thinking that the women players you know who are 600 that can't beat a 600 male is because you said they only play other women. If they did, you would see that they in fact, can play at the same level. It's an issue of personal bias and "feelings" affecting pure numbers and results. You have experience with the game and players and based on that you have your opinion of the results that may happen, not from any hard data. The 600 male player may have a stronger stroke, they may draw the ball better so they "seem" like better players, but if they go against a 600 rated female, that will show up as only one factor to beating them, they may miss more, they may take lower chance shots and loose on flyers more, etc.. As another car analogy, let's say you are in a small economy car and then in a luxury car, you go 100 in each, the economy car will feel like it's going a lot faster if you were just going to go by the feel of how the car handles.

Except the women who consider themselves "pros" when they are B players crumble under the heat.
That is semantics and a comparative skill level. If you are a 10 year old basketball player, you may be a top 10 year old "pro" basketball player because you are better than the other 10 years olds, but in the open world of everyone, that won't fly. In this case, the women "pro" players are worse than the male "pro" players, but that is not hard tournament results against equals, just a comparative label based on the competition level.

I would like to see the Fargo rating on some of the other top women players, especially those from China and Taiwan. There are several who play in the same range as Siming, often beating her. As good as she is, she is not the dominant player over there. She is just one of many very good players, probably all playing above 750.

You can see a list of the top 100 female players in the world (that Fargo is aware of, and that have had enough activity in the last couple of years to warrant inclusion), along with their Fargo ratings, at the link below. It defaults to the Top 100 World, so just click on "Top 100 World - Female".

She's a 684
47th/48th

Mike will have to admit to the list being wrong
In order to be included on the "top" lists, a player has to have a minimum number of games recorded over the last year or so. Jennifer is not included on either the world or the US top 100 women's list. She is included on a "Top 10" US list, presumably because it has not been updated recently.

Mike is never wrong

Thanks is for the clarification

Thank you. Fourteen at 750 or above! They can compete with anyone.

Han Yu has a more impressive resume of major titles than Siming Chen.
