Favorite Ferrule Material?

Do you have one? I'm guessing some players don't even know what their ferrule is made of, they just know they like what is on their cue. Do you request a certain material when you have a cue built. I know some prefer ivory and that is it, so let's leave that out, sorry Bava, I'm only considering non ivory materials for this purpose. I will say my favorite shaft has a Ivory ferrule so it's not personal, but until I picked it up, my preference was the GE micarta used by Schon and Runde. Thoughts?

I'll go with Micarta as my favorite, though of my 40 or so shafts, only one has it.

I think my second favorite would be Juma. It has the ivory color, though no grain pattern. In my opinion, a somewhat more compliant hit, a bit softer than ivory, aegis, ivorine.

I also like Melamine. A bit lighter color than Juma, a bit crisper hit, and has a grain pattern to it. Sometimes, could be mistaken at a distance for ivory.

Ummm, I also like ivory...

All the best,
WW

After ivory and yellow micarta, my favorite ferrule material is melamine, the good stuff that Schmelke sells

I like the micarta ferrules on my Runde shafts a lot, partly just like the look of the, but definitely think they have a nice sound/feel too.

I did have a chance to try a coule ivory ferrule shafts recently though and have to say I did like the feel. One was a Runde. I'd be tempted to try at least one ivory ferrules shaft next time I get a new one after that experience.

Black Linen Micarta, it's really hard & not for everyone but I love it

Just an opinion

I too like Ivory for the main reason that it stays so clean as not being very porous.

I would venture to guess that 99% of people could not tell what the ferrule material is on a cue if you put tape over the ferrule and then let them hit some balls with it.

As long as it is a material that stays very clean it would work for me. Nothing worse than a dirty scratched up ferrule.

As mentioned just above, I don't think I could tell a difference on hit, but I really like how clean the ivory ferrules stay.

Juma with a pooldawg8 milk dud is my favorite. The juma is the easiest material I've found to keep clean.

Juma or another Plastic

1. Its what you get used to and like but Ive spent a fair amount of time on this subject and

2. If its plastic or some derivative such as Juma...it works fine for me

I like Ivory and it plays well but it does produce more squirt than I'm used to when loading shots up with a strong stroke.

I'm so used to my cue with juma or plastic ferrule as one shaft has juma and the other just a standard ferrule that I cant tell much difference between the two. No significant weight different to produce a measurable amount of difference in squirt.

Plastic may not be sexy but it sure plays good in my opinion. Add some color to it and you wont have to worry about blue stain.

It's my favorite aswell, but are you sure the stuff in your picture is that?
I bought mine directly from Mason and it is a little more green-ish and
slightly translucent.

gr. Dave

Yes.
The color is dependent upon how much coloring the production foreman used that day.
The transluscence can be affected by the glue or epoxy you use.
I used magic sauce epoxy on this one.
