favorite male and female player and why?

Not sure. Depends on assignements I guess. My wife is also AD and if they separate us, then we'll turn it down and retire. My enlistment takes me through 21 now. I can stay to 24 at my current grade. I guess we'll take one day at a time.

All these Air Force guys! I went in in June of '69! Retired in '94 at Randolph AFB in San Antonio. Was brought up outside of Boston. Do we all play left handed?

Either way, best of luck buddy. If you can stay until 24 I'm assuming you are a MSgt which means you've done well.

Best regards,
Koop

I'm a TSgt - MSgt can stay to 26 now - Tested for Master first time this year, misssed by 13. I'll get it next year. That should put my pin on about the same time as my name comes up on Hercek's list. LOL, got to plan ahead!

I come from a military family myself. My dad was a major in the Army Air Corps in World War II, which later became the U.S. Air Force. Back then, the Air Force and Army were lumped together. The benefits were very good for a military man in those days. I enjoyed free medical care until I was 18 years of age at Walter Reed Hospital, and after my father passed away, my mom was given full benefits as a surviving spouse. I still have my dad's medals, uniforms, and Army green metal trunk with his military number and name on it. Both of them are buried at Arlington National Cemetery. If you ever come to D.C., I know it sounds strange to say go visit a cemetery, but this is one place which is a tourist attraction, full of history: JFK's grave with the eternal flame, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and many other interesting sights to see.

On topic of the thread, my favorite female player is Julie Kelly because of her cheerful disposition, her Irish brogue, and dedication to the game/sport in the States. She sacrificed a lot when she made the decision to leave her native country of Ireland and pursue a professional career of playing pool in America. She's got better killer instinct than most when she's competing, but Julie is an absolute joy to be around on the offs. Plus, I love those smiling Irish eyes of hers. :)

As far as my favorite male player -- aside from Keith, of course :D -- it's a draw between Earl "The Pearl" Strickland and Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich.

Shows how time's change. I made Staff in just under 3 years back during the Vietnam era. I'm no dummy, but it was more a reflection of how desperate they were to keep people in back then. I wouldn't be surprised if the same kind of promotion mania started again with a hot war going on.
BTW, Willie Hoppe's nephew was a Lt. in my office, cool huh? Couldn't play pool (or billiards) to save his life.

Where outside Boston? I grew up in Marshfield, Koop's from Quincy.
BTW, I signed up in '67, but was out in '71 going east from Travis as fast as my 67 Valiant could go. Coast to coast in 71 1/2 hours.

A man with a plan.. If you only missed by 13 you should be just fine next time around.
I'm right with you on the Hercek so we can compare 20 years from now :D

Sept 18, 1947 ;)

I still remember my history plus that was a question when I went for Airman of the Quarter.

That's not possible now. TAFMSD is 3 years for Staff, and at that it's impossible. SrA promoted BTZ would be 30 months. Then you'd wait 12 months to put it on.

DD - Yep, The birth of the Air Force. You know they don't do quarterly boards hardly at all now. It's all package review only. I miss that tradition.

Who is your favortie male and female player on tour?

Female = Jeanette Lee. Fun to watch, a serious student of the game, plays straight pool, and (most of all) has a serious commitment to local charities and to improving the game of pool.

Male = Well, I was going to say Efren, but then it would look like I was just copying SJM, so I'll say...................dang, I still have to say Efren. He is a great competitor, a good sportsman with a good attitude, and he wasn't one of the multitude of "wimps" at DCC that refused to go for tough runouts.

Landon Shuffett... and I'd have to agree!

Landon Shuffet and Brandon Shuff are two different players. :p

Landon is a good choice in that he is going to represent the U.S. team, competing at the WPA World Junior Championships this fall.

Brandon Shuff is a favorite up-and-coming player of mine, too! The 22-year-old kid's got a heart of gold and a strong desire to take his game to the next level. He's been hitting 'em pretty sporty as of late. ;)
