Feature IPT Article Coming in Details Magazine

Get Bernie Friend to ghost write it for you for a small fee....right now my guess is that $5,000/- would probably buy his remarkable talents on a contractual basis. The article will then be accurate and grammatically perfect and will be penned from the perspective of an emotionally stable and highly articulate 8 ball player whose cuesport skills are the envy of the civilised world.

$5000? Are you kidding me? Bernie would probably pay to be quoted in a mainstream magazine. He would pay double if you would put one of his crackpipe stories in there.

Of course I am not kidding.....and "Details" is hardly a mainstream magazine....that is why I suggested such a low fee,he is worth so much more.

I'm writing a feature piece about Kevin Trudeau and the IPT for Details magazine, one of the largest men's magazines in the country. I would like to hear from players, promoters, sponsors, IPT staff, as well as from Deno Andrews and Kevin Trudeau.

My aim is to write a balanced, accurate piece, and to do so I need to hear from everyone as soon as possible.

My writing about pool has appeared in Details, Esquire, and Best American Sports Writing. My pool game is less impressive. My best finish ever is 84th place in the banks division at the DCC in 2003.

Thanks,

Additionally, the IPT has cancelled two tournaments, one in London and the other in Chicago without a rescheduled date. They have, over the course of their short existance increased the entry fee for their qualifying tournaments from $500(I believe) to $2000.

One point of major interest is that, in spite of the cancelled tournaments and the non payment to the players and others, they continue to hold multiple qualifyier tournaments accepting entry fees for future tournaments that are not even scheduled to take place. It has been stated by many that the IPT resembles the pryamid type of business model that appears to be the basis of Mr. trudeau's past business ventures.

Mr. Trudeau is a convicted felon with a past the includes prison, investigations and fines by the various State and Federal agencies. This information is readily available public information.

For those that don't know Mr. Dolan is the author of a truly excellent short story called "Pool, A Love Story", originally published in Esquire Magazine in 1988.

Anyone interested (who doesn't mind setting up a free trial account) can download it http://www.keepmedia.com/pubs/Esquire/1998/02/01/170304?extID=10037&oliID=229.

1998, actually. February. The piece was also reprinted in Best American Sports Writing 1999.

I believe you're mistaken on the $500 bit.

I was in Atlanta at the time they had one of those "Find replacements for the ten tour card spots" qualifiers, back in January. The entry fee for that qualifier was $2k.

Now, that wasn't the FIRST of the five 2-spot-each card qualifiers they did. So it could be the fees for one or more of the previous ones was $500. I dunno. I'm sure there are some folks on here who would know what the fees for those earlier events were.

But from the Atlanta one on, including NA/World qualifiers, it was $2k or $3k.

Wasn't $500 the originally declared sign-up fee players would play if they were selected to be part of the original 150? (Before they had the qualifiers) Then at some point they decided to not charge anything at all to the original 150, but $2000 to try and earn a place via a qualifier.

Of course as I cannot get a simple date right (Sorry JD!) I'm probably wrong about this too.

However if, as people are now speculating, the qualifying system was planned to be a prime IPT revenue source, why didn't they have all of the original 150 earn their places via paid qualifiers? It never made much sense to me at the time.

Weren't they asking like $899 for the initial 150, then nixed that later?

Originally selected members were to pay an $899 lifetime membership to the IPT. Then Trudeau took heat for that so he reduced it to $1. Somewhere along the line here someone said that they were one of the first to apply and either pay of be willing to pay the $899 and hence were selected for their faith in the new venture. Mrs. Carter perhaps?

Guilty as charged. Although with one clarification...I was only willing to pay it for my husband, Mike Zimmerman. :p

Linda, wasn't the original cost of the qualifiers either $500/$1000 or $750/$1500, depending on whether you chose the full or partial prize payout?

And hasn't it been raised two times since, or am I just losing my mind entirely?
