Fedor Gorst nominated for Mosconi CUP Team USA!

What a publicity stunt for MR and Fedor.

Wasn't Fedor born, raised and trained in Europe? Has he not been a US PR for less than a year? His PR was granted because of "extraordinary skill" - I believe that's the terminology. MR changes its own rules for him to get onto the team, and as a points-driven pick, avoids JJ having to select him as a wild card over other worthy US players.

Mosconi Cup is a great exhibition, lucrative to players and MR.
The "Europe vs USA" element is now shown to be an appropriation for drama.

This whole story comes down to monetizing Fedor for corporations and himself, and that said, this is overall good for pool.

Gordon Gecko would have loved this.

Start having Snooker championships in the US ASAP.

Snooker already has huge global player lists.

If this is happening in billiards can it happen in snooker?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Roberto Gomez yet. Where does his residence/citizenship stand? He obviously can't play for Europe as Shaw does.

Dennis Orcullo was in the US so long he got banned.

Can Dennis be Team USA?

What if Fedor was from Vladivostok? Yekaterinburg? Lotta Russia out there in Asia.

I’m a big fan of Fedor but am a bit conflicted on this announcement. It feels more like a move that’s best for business (ie making the US more competitive) and less about allowing someone to represent a country they’re now a permanent resident of. Would Matchroom be on board if the “US” team was made up of Shane, Jayson, Fedor, Thorsten, and Mika? All of those guys could theoretically join team USA if they wanted/qualified/were chosen.

All that said, I’d love to know what someone like Oscar or Shane Wolford think of this development. They may both make the team still but it has to sting a bit to work all year towards a goal and have the rules changed at the 11th hour to let someone potentially snipe a spot from you.

Thorsten and Mika dont have enough points.

The list is huge and it'd be nice as an excel file. Matchroom standardized player ranking by prize money.

Thank you MR, great statistical work.

Fedor has already played for Team Europe.
What if Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine? Would Fedor have continued to represent Team Europe?

Probably. The war disrupted a lot. I don’t intend to get into the politics. Russia being on two continents is interesting given both history and the current situation. That’s all. Fedor getting status/citizenship is good for him and I am all for him getting opportunities to play. If it helps team USA in a pro event it is fine by me.

I sponsored to friends from Burma that are both proud and happy American citizens. The challenges they faced were huge, but here they are.

For all those doubting Fedor and his reasons for wanting to join this country and embrace it as his home. Just look to the southern border and see what those folks are enduring to get here!

Shame on all of you. This IS the greatest country on earth, the most free country on earth and just might be the most desirable place on earth to live.

I am very proud of him for having the courage to leave a place he no longer felt happy in and to take on the challenges it takes to adjust to living in America.

We are all lucky that such a person as him wants to be here and represent us!

I tend to agree with you, this is nothing against Fedor who is arguably the best player on the planet right now. But if he plays on the American team and that leads to an American win, that win would feel tainted at best. I know I'm in a minority here, but maybe American citizenship should be a criterion for American play on the Mosconi Cup. Like I say I know I'm in the minority here.

He's in the process of becoming a citizen. He's already waaaaay more of a citizen than the busloads of illegals that Biden&Co. call 'citizens'. A win with FG won't be 'tainted' in the least.

Who the fk cares??? The fact is he's here, buying property and well on his way to citizenship. He belongs on the team as much as any other.
