Fedor Mosconi cup

For playing in the World Championship, it is "passport holder", I believe. There is the problem of dual citizenship and that would be where the time between changes would come in. Some organizations have a five-year (maybe three?) transition period without playing.

I think Matchroom is free to do as they please and maybe someone switching sides would be an interesting wrinkle. It would be really strange for Shaw to switch. Fedor would seem a lot more neutral.

On the Joe Rogan show he said something to the effect that he'd need to sit out three years of events to change the nationality he represents.

It's interesting because the rule actually comes from the Olympic Charter (Page 77, Rule 41, Bye-law 2). The rule is that three years must pass since he last represented his old country before he may represent his new country.

https://stillmed.olympic.org/.../EN-Olympic-Charter.pdf

So questions arise like first does that only apply to the Olympic Games (or World Games?) themselves and might the WPA be inclined to use that as a guideline for their own rulings but do they actually have some discretion regarding the handling of general international competition?

And second, when was the last time Fedor represented Russia in international competition? With the bans and him now competing unaffiliated, it may be the case the three years are nearly lapsed already provided he doesn't represent Russia in any future event and reset the clock.

It may be the case he could be good to go as soon as his citizenship clears if he works with the WPA and plays his cards right.

And ultimately the relationship between Matchroom and WPA also makes you wonder whether those IOC-oriented protocols will mean anything to Matchroom running non-sanctioned invitational events that don't award federation-recognized medals.

The Russian federation can still claim Fedor as their player and his winnings. Is there an asylum status in pool or refugee status for athletes.

If a federation does not serve its players well, then who should players have access to? Without a higher power or support structure, federations in general assemblies make rules.

How is Fedor able to play for Europe if he is Russian?

Wouldn’t being a legal American resident make him eligible for team USA?

The euro team is only good because almost all of them live in USA.

Well, look at that BJ. Good for him.

And a minor gripe...I think it a little tacky to display $ instead of some point total.

It raises a good question.

European countries tax at higher rates.

Do European federations tax their player the same way the government does, at high rates?

No one is taking a piece of American prize earnings. If you looks at expenses most American pros should be in debt.

Thats bound to happen when America has at will employment system. Europe has various ways to employ people and govern it.

More untruths.

Why?

The Fedor Mosconi is highly political and controversial after the 2022 ban and reactions to the ban, it is becoming clear the pool community is experiencing major changes.

Is the current pool structure going to be the successful model in 50 years from now?

Doubtful, now is the time to argue priorities and start initiatives to create the culture of success for the future.

The world needs less divisions and more reason to come together.

It is an aging infrastructure problem.

There is a lot of info discussed about aging infrastructure.

Who decides what the Mosconi Cup means to people?

Was it the division by country or the cooperation to play a sport?

Its an online forum, its more like a writers room.

How is that??? The Americans suck, the players that live here now are better because the European players are better period.

Has nothing to do with living here, if that were the case the Americans would be better

Ideal situation: WPA does its job and appeals WCBS and they rule for final say. The WCBS is the highest court in pool they operate outside of IOC jurisdiction.

It's his fault he was born in Russia?

Adults judge people by their character, but you do you
In my post I said "Personally, I like Gorst as a player and as a person but I do not feel comfortable with a citizen of a communist country representing the USA." I have not heard him renounce his country of citizenship nor apply for citizenship in another country or the USA. He is merely a visitor. And a respected one. Maybe Team Europe does not want him to represent them either.

Well, technically, Russia has changed from communism to a kleptocracy, so maybe it's OK.

Not so. Check out the last Team Europe.

2022 Team Europe
Josh Filler lives in Germany and has never lived in the USA
Albin Ouschan lives in Austria and has never lived in the USA
Francisco Sanchez-Ruiz lives in Spain and has never lived in the USA
David Alcaide lives in Spain and has never lived in the USA.
Jayson Shaw has lived in Connecticut for many years now.

OK, one out of five.

The 2023 Hitler Cup would be surprisingly good (use Axis vs Allies at the height of the Nazi regime as the teams, and recognize Spain as pretty sympathetic to the Nazis).

Axis Team Possibilities:

Filler, Ouschan, He, FSR, Alcaide + the Polish players

Allied Team Possibilities:

SVB, Gorst, Woodward, Shaw, Mika + the Filipino players.

I’m not sure how well the “Hitler Cup” would go over from a marketing point of view, however, there seems to be some stigma associated with that name.

it wouldn't be completely without controversy. and finland was actually with the axis 41-44 because soviet had attacked them.

how about the pope cup? catholic vs protestant countries.

I'm mixed on this because ultimately, it's personal for Fedor and generally not my business, but that being said I'm very also very curious about a lot of things.
I believe he mentioned briefly in an interview that the reason he did not go home to Russia when Kristina did a while back was because a man his age would be forced into military service because they are at war. I don't know if that would be similar to the draft we had here in the USA or not?
I have no knowledge of how it works in Russia, but if I'm remembering correctly when the USA had the draft in effect, one of the consequences for not reporting was potentially, loss of citizenship.

Also, the USA does not require you to renounce your citizenship to become American. We allow "dual nationality."

All that aside, I would like to see him stay here and become a citizen.
