Fedor Vs Tony 1 pkt

That's 9ball, the game that has far more events than all the other disciplines combined. On a bar table, both eight ball and 9ball are non-fringe.

The fringe games (10ball, big table 8ball, one pocket, banks, straight pool, etc.) are those that are not contested nearly as often. As we've seen, the fringe games can be just as entertaining, even more entertaining, than any other game.

Hope you're well, Steve.
I am, thank you.

The people that play “fringe games” play everything well. Don’t be fooled.

Champions are champions for a reason.

Hope to see you somewhere sometime, if I can dig out my two headed quarter I’ll flip you for dinner then. 🫨😁

switch bank pool with 8-ball and kaci has a good chance. filler's best games are 9-ball and straight pool
Kaci beat Filler in the 10 Ball event to claim World Championship this year. Kaci beat Filler in another event 10-1 they didn’t say 9 or 10 ball, and has beaten Filler 7 out of 10 times according to the interview I saw. I think Filler is great player but I question his dominance, Kaci, FSR, can play him in rotation games. If SVB break is working he’s not underdog I don’t think. This just my opinion.

Well said. Awfully few understand this. Races to 100 are not and have never been the true measuring stick for excellence because non-pool factors are part of the picture. Shane is the underdog to Fedor in a race of any length, but in a set of manageable length, Shane has a decent chance to get to the finish line. For example, the race to 17 played between Filler and JL Chang at the 2019 Derby City Classic was long enough to produce a deserving winner and short enough that stamina was not a significant issue. If you want more pool than that, how about the match played between Kaci and Pagulayan at Grif's in Las Vegas several years ago. Best of five sets, Race to 21 with breaks between sets.
If Shane picked the table and conditions and rules then it would be fair.
Races to 11 best two outta three.
If they are a set a piece, then next day, final set.

Do we think Alex has reached Efren ability in one pocket? Or since Efren has gotten older, Alex is the last man standing (but did not close the gap to Efren’s best). The reason I ask is Efren manhandled Alex many times at the DCC. One year when he won the whole thing he beat Alex 3-1 and 3-0 I believe.

I feel that in the 80’s and 90’s when Efren was younger, the top 9 ball players were also regularly playing one pocket. So the one pocket competition had the best ball strikers, in general.

Today, the best ball strikers only play one pocket once a year at DCC.

here is a list of the winners of prominent onepocket tournaments
if you look thru the winners and runner ups from 1980-2000
most names are not names you would think od as 9 ball champions
of course there are exceptions

Yeah, Alex is past his prime and that kid may be the best in the world now...definitely a bad combination for Alex.
I said, probably a year ago, I thought Fedor is the best in the world now. Glad some others are coming on board with me. That is crazy to think when we have the likes of Filler, Shaw and FSR...potentially at the tops of their games. Crazy good competition at the top, that is for sure. One for JAM...USA, USA, USA! We need all the help we can get.

To not have Shane on the list and maybe even #1 is questionable, IMHO.
On a nine-footer, Shane's not a favorite against Fedor in any game, so I don't see how you can even consider him for #1. Ignoring his injury, I'd definitely take Kaci over Shane right now in both 10-ball and 9-ball, and the longer the race, the more I like Kaci.

I hear ya. I used the words maybe and questionable. But I'm talking about one pocket. SVB should be on that list somewhere, don't you think?

He's definitely in the conversation. Personally, I like Fedor Gorst, Tony Chohan, Josh Filler, Alex Pagulayan and Dennis Orcullo as the top five at one pocket right now. My second five would be Efren, SVB, Billy Thorpe, Josh Roberts and Jon Pinegar.

... but it's all a matter of opinion, and you are entitled to yours.

Certainly, nobody has done so yet, but the cueists of today are the best ever seen in our sport, and it seems certain to me that, at some point, somebody will surpass Efren's level.

Ronnie Allen, Cliff Joyner, Grady Mathews, Efren Reyes, all great one-pocket phenoms who were in different eras. The Ronnie Allen of 1965 could beat anybody on the face of the planet in 2023 in one-pocket. The Ronnie Allen of 2005, not so much.

Each pool player has streaks of greatness, some longer than others. In one-pocket, there are quite a few super stars, but none greater than Ronnie, Cliff, Grady, and Efren in their primes.
