Testing hasnt been done yet. Im looking to see if there are any ferrules that I havent got on the list. Can you think of any?
Chris
Chris,
I was just curious how your results turned out. I am interested in your test and very interested in how the different materials compare in hardness.
Thanks,
dakota
I didnt put ivory on there because I dont think the durometer is capapable of providing accurate readings from material that porous.
Chris
I have a durometer for leather tips...They are more porous than ivory for sure. I use it to keep customers happy when putting on tips. I keep the same hardness for a specific customer.
A fer months ago I switched cues, and went from ivory ferrules to melamine, and a harder tip.
The combination works quite well.
I haven't tried everything, but Elforyn doesn't seem to be a good ferrule material.
Although it seems to be too late to add to the list I would also like to see "Mason's Micarta" tested. And just in case it's not too late, here are other materials below. But I imagine people in the know could rank these relative to the results you obtain just from experience and feel. I suppose buck horn might not be testable for the same reason as ivory?
