ferrule length and type

I don't recall ever hitting a cue with a uncapped ferrulle.

It seems like the replys prefer a uncapped ferrule.......

From those with experience with uncapped ferrules........what is the difference...hit...deflection...etc.???
 
Well not sure about deflection but there's less ferrule so you can make an assumption of less mass.

It' more of a feel thing , if you think you can feel the difference , its effectively tip on shaft. Least number of materials in the transmission line. I prefer (collared) wood to wood joints for the same reason.

Its all about the wood !

What's the difference? Is an uncapped ferrule an open sleeve that surrounds the tenon, leaving exposed wood at the top under the tip, while a capped ferrule caps the tenon, leaving only ferrule material under the tip? That's what I'm inferring from this thread, but am not sure.

uncapped

i like the hit and feel of the uncapped. with a i inch ferrule. i tend to like the old standard fiber ferrule . may be just a mind thing. old school stuff.
i own cues with both types. johnqbs anderson sc
