Would you please speak English.pdcue said:A. It's 'squirt', but who's counting.
B. Not all players are OCD about it.

Arnot Wadsworth said:I am not so sure that a heavier ferrule has much to do with deflection. Lets face it; there is only about one gram difference in weight between all ferrules. Capped ferrules weigh more than thru ferrules and most cues have capped ferrules. I think that should end the argument, at least it does here.
KJ Cues said:A heavier ferrule has a great deal to do with deflection. The heavier the front-end of the shaft, the slower it is to get off the QB. The longer the tip stays on the QB, the greater the deflection. Physics, proven fact. Either that or Predator and OB-1 have wasted a whole lot of time & money. Ivory happens to be the heaviest of the examples given. Performance or pretty, your choice. I prefer performance, it's too late to think about pretty.

Good Cuemaking,

Iron willie did not work when a major magazine went to the predator shop some years ago, and to top it all off the first predator shafts had a graphite insert in them to stiffin up the shaft and reduce deflection. The inserts were comming loose, so Predator all of the sudden decided that a hollow shaft with less weight in the front reduces deflection. Which is it? I do not see Mike Bender hollowing out his shafts and his cues hit a ton with the ivory ferrule. What about Southwest, DPK, Scruggs, Kikel, Stroud? Are all of these Elite cue makers wrong? They have made it to the top off their profession!!! If it is a proven fact then bring the proof!!!
Great points.KJ Cues said:It's probably about as easy to pull fence posts by hand as it is to explain something to someone with a closed mind. Since I'm not anxious to do either, I'll let the research speak for me.

Bare in mind that this is an independent study. Neither Predator or OB had anything to do with it.
A discussion of ferrules :

To bring the great names into this discussion as you have proves nothing. I can't speak for them and neither can you. The one thing that they all have in common is that they started building cues before this technology became widespread. It brings up the adage that 'once you have something that works for you, you stick with it'.
Since you did mention the name of Mr. Bill Stroud, are you aware that he is the creator of the 'Smart Shaft'? It places near the top along with the other performance shafts. Hmmmmm.
It's my opinion that Predator technology is the greatest advancement in pool cue performance since the leather tip. It makes no difference to me whatsoever what you choose to believe or disbelieve. I hope that something beneficial can come from this discussion but disrupting your belief system is not one of my goals.
