First DCC match.

I just got out of the shower - if you're behind me we have a problem :-)

It's cool, you can knock, I mean it's OBVIOUS to everyone that I am not going to write flowery poetic trip stories when I am getting ready for this match. Everything for me is in context of how it relates to the upcoming match.

Please buy beer - I am SO THIRSTY from talking all day. Freddie bought me one yesterday and it was like a life preserver to a drowning man.

that Freddie always knows just the right thing to do - find a man drowning, buy him a beer. :D:grin-square:

best,
brian kc

John lost to Randy Jordan.

And let me tell you - Mr. Randy Jordan has a good one pocket mind. I put him in some good traps and he had to come with some shots to get out of them. I didn't really get a lot of air after the first game. I needed to play tighter for sure but I know the mistakes I made and what I need to do. It's 8:30am and I wish I could say I was reviewing one hole vids or something but I am on the phone dealing with ticket issues with Expedia. Hope to be able to block all that out and play at 10am.

As for the upcoming match I had conversations with Rodney and Danny Diliberto among others about it and what it means and how to handle the mental side of it and they had some great advice for me. There was a point in all this when I felt a little tension and apprehension about playing Lou - thought maybe I am not really ready - but coming to DCC has really reinforced it that I am ready now and will be super ready on March 18th. I have some other stops to make to prepare for the match to tune up my game and am looking forward to them.

My, My, we get a little testy when we get shut-out don't we ! ...But again, we get NO name ?..Surely this thrashing was
delivered by one of the well known One Pocket expert's ;)

Caution; the ROC Barton appears to be taking on water !

The guy played lights out and got every roll possible.

There honestly was very very little John could do. I don't even play one pocket but I watched his entire match with him. The guy that beat him can play well, but there would be no reason for John to get "testy" after that match. The guy played lights out and got the rolls to boot.

What do you expect of him?

thanks for the updates. Keep on pluggin' away. Don't let the naysayers get you down.

That is cool that Rodney is using your cases now. The one you made for me was inspired by a case he used to have. I think the one you made is perfect.

Thanks. No one can get me down. Those who chirp from the sidelines don't bother me as much as they think they do. I wonder if some of them ever had the stones to gt in the grease themselves and test their boundaries?

SJD did you ever go to Johnston City? If so tell us what your record was.

John, no shame in losing to Randy....he plays very well. He is from GA and plays Shannon's tour and finishes top 5 consistantly.

I hate to say it but SJD is cut from a different cloth compared to most of the gamblers in pool today. He has more gamble then nearly anyone I have ever met, the type of guy who will bet it all and either will win big or lose big but he is not going to play for tiddlywinks. FYI there is a DVD from Accu-stats where Dick is like 60 years old and Cliff is in his prime or close to it and SJD wins so you can imagine how good San Jose was in his prime.

Sorry to disappoint you John, but my record at JC, is 0 for 0 but you already knew that, didn't you ?.. I only tried to go there once, around '64 or '65 (with Bill Stroud) but our car broke down, got there too late to enter !.. Blessing in disguise, won more money in the back room, then the winner of the tournament made..;)

Never was much for tournaments, everyone knows how [sic] 'lucrative' they can be .. Only played once at the Stardust..Went like 6 and 2, and barely got my entry fee back !.. You should know, if you would quit bragging about your "massive improvements" at one pocket, I would quit gigging you about it.. Please tell your friend(s), its amazing they haven't picked up on that yet ! :sorry:

Keep taking those lessons though John ! :p

LATE EDIT;..
..As for the upcoming match I had conversations with Rodney and Danny Diliberto among others about it and what it means and how to handle the mental side of it and they had some great advice for me.<--Poor choices John !..I believe EVEN Mr. Wil-ey plays better one pocket, than either of those guy's !

I understand. Keep in mind I wasn't saying Dick could not play. I was asking what his Johnston City record is.

Couple road players from that era and I were discussing Dick's stories and they couldn't recall if Dick had ever played there or not.

Correct. I reported what happened. Lou played bad against Brumback and John told me that as well. John has a lot of respect for Lou and his game. John just banked EVERY makeable bank and ou left a few too many.

I wouldn't say Kurt's name isn't fit to print though, he shoots REAL STRAIGHT and if he knew more about one pocket then I would have lost my first DCC match. I am not taking cheap shots at Lou.....I am telling it like it is - he came and sweated my match and I won and I sweated his and he lost. If he plays the same against me as he did against Brumback then I like my chances. Of course he won't feel the same pressure against me as against Brumback.

Have fun knocking me because while you are doing that I am having fun at the DCC.

Met Ray Hansen last night too. He has a cool setup. Delivered his case a year late but he was happy and said it was worth the wait. (like how I inserted a commercial for JB cases in there too?)

:-) Knock Knock. Who's there? Knockers. Knockers who? Knocking knockers that's who.
Haters gonna hate.

You do your thing John. If everybody was them same, what a boring place it would be.

You post your money and step into the box where less than 1% of pool players will go. Yet 95% will gossip and disparrage a man simply because they dont have your courage intelligence and conviction.

I will be there in 15 short hours. After a little practice, I will be ready to talk with the only words that matter "In god we trust"!

Did he win that event? I beat Cliff in a local tournament once. Any idea what his Johnston City record was?

By the way I lost my 10am match against a superb moving senior citizen. 3-1. The upside is that I learned 4-5 good moves AND I finished higher than Lou did.

I don't see any reason why a 60 year old can't still play good. The gentleman I played today proved that amply.

Why don't you and Lou play a little 500 or 1000 dollar warm up? Something short and swet.

Makes sense to me since you are both there, besides if you feel you can beat Lou you probably make a nice score there, probably more gamblers there than Valley Forge.

I stopped by the booth but you were busy...I'll try again later.

If you can get him to the table then we can play. I heard that there was a Jane Monheit performance in Paris though and Lou was flying to see her do Over The Rainbow in acapella. Either that or we are facing an invasion of Norwegian reporters that the Pentagon requires Lou's extraordinary PR skills to divert from asking hard questions about Area 51. By the time he is done they will be writing a piece about Studio 54 instead.

I have asked Lou to play several times and he says no all the time. I don't want him to press charges for gambler harassment so I stopped asking. Maybe if you stake him he might consider it.

Ahhh... I don't know his speed nor yours so I can't stake either side.

Buddy Hall Won the 1998 World One-Pocket over Marco Marquez

SJD never won an event at Johnston City, but he said that already.

Luther Lasiter won the all around 4 times nobody else ever won more than one all around.

I see. And what was SJD's record in Johnston City? (is is Johnston or Johnson?)

How many times did he go to play? Who did he beat there?

He would love this event. I wish Dick could attend it, don't know if he has but it sounds like it's just the kind of atmosphere he would like. Little Joe said SJD can get a rematch ;-) (he didn't really say that but he is full of great road stories about May players of SJD's era)

I bought a couple DVDs from Joe. He has some excellent information. Hope it helps me, us bangers need all the help from top notchers that we can get.
