You beat Cliff Joyner even in one pocket? As for JC he said he won more cash gambling then the winner of the tournament made at that event. Sure a 60 year old can play great but I doubt many were as good as when they were 30 and I don't know any 60 year old who can beat a top one pocket player today racing to 4 in a tournament or for cash. Oh wait, I did hear that Jerry Matchin beat John Schmidt (not a top 10 one pocket player) at the Derby and he is in his 60s I believe. As for tournament records, Dick rarely played tournaments because if he did there would probably be a few more Accu-Stats videos of him beating champions but he was a gambler. There is a reason the guy is in the 1 Pocket HOF.

Yes in a race to two. But I also beat Lou in a race to two. And I beat Rodney Morris in a race to five 9 ball - and Max in a race to five 9 ball - and Bustamante in a race to three nine ball - and I beat Danny Medina in a race to five in a tournament once.
I don't know why you might think I think Dick wasn't a player. I haven't said that. He was not a famous player and is not a famous player. I can walk down the hall here and ask people to name ten famous 60/70s era one pocket players and bet high - very high that Dick's name is not mentioned even 20% of the time.
Yeah he is in the One Pocket Hall of Fame, I get it. Still, there are PLAYERS and there are Players and there are players. To me Dick is in the middle category of guys who were just below the upper tier. Certainly good enough to take a set or a session but not the stuff legends are made of. And picking on me for trying my heart out here is simply bad taste.
Lou is supposed to be this super player and the fact is that some of us know he is an ok player, a good banger, not a shortstop, maybe OCCASSIONALLY playing over his head at shortstop level. Why Dick has to take his side and denigrate me like I am Helen Keller is just silly. You don't see any other top notchers here beating up on amateurs the way Dick attempts to put me down.
Not that I really care. I like the banter. I like the barking. I like the action when I have time to get into it. But I am a working man - I get here and work my booth and then when I have put in ten hours - I go wander around and see what's up. Stay up late and then do it again the next day. When I play the event I literally go straight from the booth to the match and back. So if I do good then it's a surprise to me that I can get into pool mode straight from sell mode. And I have fun with it. So any one can try to piss on my cornflakes but you will always miss the bowl and never understand that you can never diminish or take away the memories I create here.
Am I going to see Lou here at DCC getting into 30-50-100 action? NO. We won't. EVER.
NEVER.
So maybe instead of trying to put me down Dick should focus on getting his boy trained BECAUSE all the gamblers here know that the only way to get comfy playing for big money is to play for big money. You aren't going to get it practicing with Over The Rainbow busting your eardrums.
Lou will never ever have the pure pleasure of playing on guts and heart against tough action and pulling it out in front of a crowd of stone cold pool killers. Not here and not in New Jersey.
You all want to call me nuts - well this is the kind of nuts you can never outrun. Lou in the box with me will be something he will live to regret. And Dick will eat everything he said to me.
One bonafide champion said to me last night that if you give a motivated opponent six months to get in shape don't be surprised when he knocks you out.
