Flying with pool cues

Have to check it...

Yep you have to check your cues. I wrap my cues in clothes in my suitcase and carry on the empty case...

Where do you stick the case? Does it fit in the overheads or do you have to stick it under the seats? I'm heading to Vegas in July but I'm afraid if I put the case in the luggage I'd get hit with the overweight bag fee that is probably more than what the plan cost.

I'm heading there with my son, but we're just bringing his cue and jump/break stick, I don't want to have to bring two cases with me.

Maybe a soft case for travel ... ugh, defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

my case with the cues inside goes inside a large suitcase/duffel. I wouldn't put my cues loose/wrapped up inside a suitcase...get a suitcase big enough to put the whole shebang inside.

I think I'll end up doing what I did last year, put the cue in a small soft case and stick that in the suitcase.

Buy a larger softball/baseball bag. The cue (in case) will fit in the part that holds the softball bats. Just get a big enough softball bag to hold whatever else you need to pack. Worked great for me when I went to Vegas for VNEA nationals.

Sadly, you must check them like luggage. I made a very handy flight case out of an 8" concrete form and this has stood up to all the punishment that the airlines baggage guys have dished out.
TSA SUCKS!

The last time I did that .............. the bastards charged me $75 for over size luggage.

Yeah, you have to pack the duffel pretty light (mostly underwear, socks, shirts--no shoes or heavy stuff). I've never had a problem; I've got a rolling duffel that's just big enough to take my Instroke with cues and packed lightly around it it makes weight fine and is within checked baggage dimension limits. I've gone trans-Atlantic with my cues that way at least 10 times, no problems.

I put it in the overheads...

Yes, this. I would never trust my golf clubs or my pool cues on a damn plane.
They have been known to ship living animals to the wrong place! It will cost
a little more, but your stuff will be much safer and it will actually arrive.

Yeah, I have to agree with the whole Fed Ex route, unless the cue wasn't worth much. There is no way I would ever check a cue worth more than 1k in my luggage.
