Focus, Regardless of Aiming Method

Fellas, there's a way to make all this conflict and consternation disappear! OK, everybody just go ahead and send Connie a PM and request that she release the 15 to 18 Truth Vids tomorrow. EZPZ!

Here's a TROLL that needs to be banned

Hi Brian. I'm back from 30 days in the cooler for getting pissed off about some racist remarks, but that's water under the bridge.

For another $70 you could pick up a copy of Play Great Pool by Mark Wilson. I'm pretty sure you don't already have it, or at least you didn't take it to heart, because the central theme of the book is, "What does it really take to become a pro level player"? Determination and "focus" are central to that goal. There are things in the book you don't really need, but if you don't find a couple of nuggets that make it worth the purchase then I'd be very surprised.

Damn....i just found this post! Lol. I was MIA, in Vegas. But actually I do have Mark's book. It's one of the best. I have an good collection of pool books. Had more at one time but got rid of least useful ones, which was quite a few.

Well, young man, it is obvious from your performance against Aranas that you need to reread his book! :p (Referring more to your mental state rather than your actual play).

Lol. Yes, you are correct. But to be fair and honest about it.... My little match with Aranas was a friendly race to 5 for $50, no different than one time when I paid $20 to play Allison Fisher one game of 9ball. She broke, got a fluke scratch, and I ran out. She said "Nice job". And I wasn't foolish enough to walk away from that $20 game thinking I had any chance of beating her in any race.

My set with Aranas was no different. I was not one bit nervous. There was no feeling of tightness or high pressure. I was there that night to play 5 games of 8ball for the BCA league. That's where my focus was. Aranas had already beat a bunch of players out of $25 and $50 sets. So in between league games I thought it would be fun to play him, to stand right there at the table and watch and learn. $50 is a cheap lesson for that caliber of player. I had no foolish notions or elaborate expectations that I was going to beat him in a race to 5.

During the league games my focus was 100%, and I performed great. Playing Aranas I felt less serious, less demanding of 100% focus. And I don't believe it would've made a difference anyway. He is not just some average pro player, he is among the top 10 in the world. And he was just freewheeling, not bearing down much at all, which made me feel even more relaxed and carefree.

Anyway, I wasn't paying $50 so Aranas could watch me play, or so I could test myself against such a player, or prove to anybody else that I could play, or whatever... I was simply paying to watch him play, and I was a bit disappointed when I missed one of his runouts while I was running out a league game on the adjacent table.

Hmm. It makes one wonder why you bothered even to pick up the cue. Why not just give him $50 and ask him to run 5 racks? That way you could have given 100% of your attention to what he was doing. Instead, you told your subconscious that it is OK to dog shots and give less than full effort because you are going to lose anyway.

What would Yoda (or Mark Wilson) say in reply?

Just bustin' your chops a little... just a little.

Hahaha.... you are right. I honestly thought that's what was going to happen anyway. He had already put a 5pk on another player, so I wasn't expecting to get much of chance to shoot. He sure plays smooth.

Thanks for making the video. It was fun to watch a guy like that in a local league setting.

The owner's daughter set the video up using her phone propped up on a shelf. I didn't know it was being recorded until a while later when she told me to stand somewhere else because my "fat head" was blocking the camera.

Hate to say but even if you lose the weight you're still gonna have a fat head. I guess it's better to have a head that is fat on the outside and not on the inside.
