for the love of action

As most people know I love action, whether it be gambling on a sporting event, playing backgammon, making a proposition on just about anything, betting on a pool player,or playing myself. Naturally,I would preferr to play myself, but for some reason players are reluctant to come to Dallas to play me.In the last 2 years i've played quite a few large $$ sets with differen't players.Needless to say i'm losing more than i'm winning, unlike years ago when I won about 80% of the time ,ask Jay.So once again i'm going to challenge some players to come to dallas to play me,not because i'm a gunslinger and want to establish a rep,or be recognized as one of the best.I've already been through all that and my time has passed. Just trying to keep it real. I have come to a point in my life where I feel bored with everything and want to play some pool. I really could't say how much longer I will feel this way,all I can say is this is the way I feel now.Incidentally Frost just called me up and wants me to come to Mesa Az. to play one pocket 11/7 & 10/6,in a room his friend just opened.
Chris Bartrum is making a name for himself, just recently beating 2 very solid players.David G down here in Dallas, for one. And I was surprised he didn't ask me to play after winning, and playing as well as he did. ????
I'll play anyone one my age even one pocket, including Buddy Hall. And I honestly don't feel that i'm the favorite playing Buddy, but I will still play, for reasons that were previously stated. I will play Bartrum even as well, and I really will be surprised if someone doesn't put him in. I have games with Chohan,Frost,Lil John,Jesse Bowman,Ike Rennels, and iv'e lost to every one of them. So for the love of action COME ON DOWN.

I wish I could have been there for the last match you had here in Dallas. I hope I can get to the next one....Wish I was good enough to try you, but I've got a long way to go!!

This is the kind of woofing that I like to hear. Good, old fashioned, bring it on down to Texas talk. That is nice. Way to go Billy.

Simon Says, Don't Do THAT

Well, my poolplaying days are behind me, but how do you feel about some $100 'Simon Says' ?

I love this post! Here is a guy saying come on down and win some of my money. And yet, most players will hesitate. At least until someone else does and shows them Billy is beatable. Then they will go down and get beat. Ha Ha! It's because they waited too long and let Billy get back in stroke. So don't make that mistake. Be the first one to get a game with Billy. Billy forgot to mention that the Lizard beat him as well in the last year. No question, he is more beatable now than he was ten or twenty years ago.

I remember going into poolrooms and asking for a game with guys who knew me. I would tell them the truth. I am out of stroke now. PLAY ME NOW I would say and you have the best of it. If you wait until I have a few days to practice, it won't be so easy. So what happens, no one steps up and I hit balls for a couple of days. Then one or two guys get brave and ask me to play. And I bar-b-que them. Don't say I didn't warn you.

When you can barely hold your cue, sitting in a wheelchair, shaking all the time and can't see longer then the cueball, then I will play you. (But I will need 10 - 6, I think)

Great post, hope someone goes to Dallas for some real action!

What is the game for Lil John, in DALLAS? Just shakin the trees....

Off on a bit of a tangent, but does Jimmy 'Flyboy' Spears play anymore? Last I heard he owned the Cue N' Cushion in Houston. Maybe he's only playing poker these days. Back when he was at Greenway in BR, La., he helped create quite a bit of big action. Guess that was 15 years ago or better though.

i wish i could, my back problems are whats stopping me, i would need weight but thats cool, right now its imposssible for me to gamble, backgammon sounds cool or monopoly even better.

I'd definitely be there to watch this one....if it were to happen here in Dallas. Anyway, I would like sweating any matches with great players, especially if they had big action involved.

Great post Billy.

Glad to hear you have the fire to play. That is great for everyone who loves to see great pool. Good luck to you in finding some action.

Problems ,problems????

That's a great answer, Billy. I don't carry a wallet. I kept a rubberband around my cash. Twice last week, when leaving the poker room, my rubberband kept falling off my dollar.

( I hope that you get some good action with this most heartwarming thread )

Lil John showed me a higher speed in Mobile than I thought he had. I was wrong and paid it off. I respect his game, and his ability to gamble and hold up under pressure. I like Lil John and enjoyed gambling with him.In Dallas he can get 9/8 and a generous walking stick if he loses. If he wins i'll pay it off one more time.

You're right Billy - LilJohn is a class act, he has lots of gamble and lots of heart. IMO, he's a throwback to to the good old days - and pool could use a lot more guys like him.

BTW, have you evr thought of matching up with these players and recording it - I'd love to see that in 10-15 years as much I wish we had some video of Carella or Roberts. Just a suggestion. I think you'd more than make up for any losses with the support of the marketbase.

That's so very true, both Carella and Roberts were before Accu-Stats so unfortunately we don't have any footage of either of those two great players. Funny that you mentioned those two guys,in my opinion they rank among of the greatest players in their respective game Carella played one pocket as good as any American player, and I had totally forgotten about him when I made my one pocket all time ranking list. Had I remembered he certainlly would be in the top 6 all time.In regard to Louie he was also tops in my book in 9 ball. Certainly in the top 10 EVER.Hermicudas rated Hubbard above Louie playing 9 ball in my greatest one pocket thread, but in my opinion Louie was well above Hubbard playing 9 ball. And your right on with your assessment on LilJohn
