Roll up all knockers, supporters, optimists, prophets of doom, pros, amateurs, coin-flippers, sherrifs, bangers and hustlers.....let's have your views on it

I'll start......without getting into all the presently unknown factors like the intended system of draw seedings etc for the final, in general it seems innovative, workable, down-to-earth, interesting and fun.......though probably not too attractive to the fussy or the purists given the race to 3 aspects.

Here's a link.

Dang, that does seem like a great idea. The short race to three make it appealing to a lowly "B" player like myself. If there was a qualifier near me I would probably fork over the $75 for a chance to have a 50K air barrel shot at me. Plus, it just seems like it would be a lot of fun.

That is a pretty damn good idea. We will have to see how it is executed of course but the format is a great idea to get "regular" players to connect to the pro's.

The format is a total gaffe coin flip deal but that is what they are going for, the idea that anyone can win and maybe you help your chances by qualifying at certain players event. It will be interesting to see the participation and how the numbers work out.

Going to need a cop, a priest, and an honest Indian at the draw though. Johnnyt

The idea is the easy part. That execution part can be a real b!tch.

There is a whole lot that can get screwed up in a deal like this. Guess we will see.

I think it is a decent idea even considering that it is a bit of a novelty and gaffe type format. All of the amateur qualifiers were held in a small area of four states that are right next to each other though.

It would have been much better if the qualifiers had been spread out all over the nation. As it stands now you could title it "The pros playing alongside the greater Chicago area." It loses some appeal for that reason.

Kinda weird it's just coming out now, but I wish them the best
any nice payday for pool is good.

Why are they giving out the pro's addresses and phone numbers? That is too much disclosure to be honest

[EDIT] I just realized the info was for the qualifier events and not for the pros... shame on me :(

That's the info for the room not the player. Johnnyt

Payouts

So if I'm reading this right ... there will be 16 qualifier events, and each of these will produce a single "Team" consisting of six finalists plus one 'assigned pro.'

The final event will then field 112 players (16 * 7), with payouts to the top finisher and all members of his/her "Team," regardless of how those other players did in the final.

With a $50K pot, including a $2K bonus to the actual winner, the payouts would be about $8,850 to that winner and $6,850 to the other six on the winner's team.

Entry cost for the qualifier events will be either $85, $75, or $65, depending on IPT's interpretation of its very ambiguous fee schedule. There is no mention of an additional fee for the final event.

If anyone can confirm and/or clarify the above math, I'm intererested.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea for anyone in that area. I would make damn sure that the payout money was in escrow somewhere though. $50,000 is a lot less than the millions' air barrel that was shot last time but still. I'm just sayin'.

What is:

I do not see any information regarding the definition of "amateur" within their details. Is there a strict set of guidelines, or a list?

Id go fly out there, I just need to make sure that I get to play with amateurs.

Am I missing somthing?

Quoted from the IPT website:
Although players compete as individuals, if they or anyone on their team wins the main event, they each win $6,000; the actual individual winner of the tournament wins $8,000. The total prize purse is $50,000.
I read this to mean that there are 7 players per team times $6,000 = $4200 plus an additional $8,000 to the winner for a total of $50,000 paid to the winning team.

But I have been wrong before. lol

I wish them the best of luck in pulling this off. Hopefully people who enter wont get screwed over by the IPT. If they did a qualifier in Miami I would enter.

They have it billed as the Chicago Area Open. Maybe there will be an LA Area Open, New York Area Open....or maybe not. Johnnyt
