Forum heads up

That's a cool tip, Neil. I can't believe I never saw that. It really helps with reading those long threads! :o

Roy from Norway recently shared another tip which is you can hit F5 to refresh the thread to see if there's anything new. I used to click my mouse to the MAIN FORUM category, then click the link to the thread, instead of just hitting the F5 key. This is a click saver and another keeper!

I guess I can throw one out there, but y'all probably already know it. :o

You can hold your CONTROL key down and hit the PLUS sign on the keyboard, and the font will get bigger on your screen. It's nice for people with old eyes, like me. :wave2:

Here are my 3 favorite forum tips:

PM notifications:
If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
User CP > Edit Options > Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up (in the Private Messaging section)

Conserve PM space:
Don't automatically save a copy of all sent messages.
User CP > Edit Options > Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default (in the Private Messaging section)

E-mail notification of received PM:
The forum can send a message to your email address to inform you when someone sends you a private message.
User CP > Edit Options > Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages (in the Private Messaging section)

You can also hit the CONTROL key and scroll the mouse wheel back or forward to increase or decrease text size.

thanx

A thank you to Neil,Jam and Mr Hoppe.
I'm low tec and search and peck.I need all the help i can get.

...uh,if a geek and a nerd have a flame war,who gets the cash?

I've seen where a number of people have said something along the lines of "check page 30". For those that don't know, you can go to "user CP", then click on "edit options", then, scroll down to "Thread Display Options". In that section, you will see where you can edit to have 5,10,20,30, or 40 posts per page. I have mine set on 40. That way, I get a lot per page.

Great tip Neil. You can also link directly to a certain post within a thread.

1 ) Click on the post number on the top right, and a new window opens with just that post.

2) Click on the link to go back to the thread at the top right of the new window.

3) Lastly, just copy the link in your web browser's address bar.

No cash, just a slightly used mousepad. :)

That's a great tip, thanks! Do you know if there is a way to show more threads per page within each forum category as well?

Thread subscription

Another thing is that you don't have to post over 125 posts in a single thread to subscribe to the thread.

When looking/reading/laughing/cursing at the posts in the thread, select Thread Tools > Subscribe to this Thread to follow the thread Ninja style.

Damn, Neil. Just when I thought I had it all learnt.
Say, what do I do when I want to leave a flaming sack full of crap on somebody's front porch? Metaphorically cyber speaking, of course.

Oh, thanks so much. Wait until I tell the gals at the water cooler about this little tip. We love anything to help us work on the computer more efficiently. Wow! I have learned a lot from this thread! :)

I did this years ago and definitely recommend it, for what it's worth. :)
