How does the chalked ball shot work? Where are you aiming on the cue ball? Are you pushing through the ball? I've never seen that prop shot before.

Chalk the contact point between the balls. I breathe on the balls to make them a little damp and then chalk from my thumb will stick. Use some inside english and point the stick straight at the pocket. Don't shoot too hard -- maybe lag speed -- and use a normal stroke, not a push.

I use the shot to demonstrate why you want to keep the balls clean to prevent skids/clings/kicks.

For now, here's a hint: the position of the ball on the cushion is critical and you want no fuller than a half-ball hit in the shot shown.
 
Has anyone else besides me noticed how much Bob Jewett looks like Teller, from Penn and Teller. They may actually be the same guy!

I also notice that your cue ball's starting position varies from 18-24 " away from the object ball. I assume it becomes more difficult as the cue gets further away from the object ball.

I don't think distance makes it much more difficult, or at least no more than for a normal shot. I think the shot is self-correcting in that if you hit it thinner, you catch more of the facing, so that a fairly wide range of hits will work. Eddie Taylor said that he would start the proposition with the cue ball where it looked like it would probably kiss but might go, and worked his way up to straight out from the ball. It is possible to make the shot from slightly on the "wrong" side depending on the table.

There is also the way Mike Massey does similar bank shots: jump the cue ball some so it is in the air as the object ball passes below.
