Back in the 90s I worked on an unload line at UPS in Louisville. I was always amazed that so many people actually got their deliveries in one piece. Shipping is scary.

Might have had a chance if they didn't reuse the same box over and over as you can see from all the old shipping marks crossed out. Those triangle boxes aren't that strong to begin with. PVC tubing inside is the way to go. Should not have happen and hope it was insured but a sturdy container might have helped. Writing fragile on a box is a waste of time....these items are transported by usps and fedex so who known along to way something was thrown on top of it. There's a million packages a day shipped and I'm sorry if people think a package is cared by someone with white gloves on from destination to destination because fragile is writin on it. Sometimes a contractor will not have enough space on his truck for a few shipping container to fit on his truck to take back to the plant so they will unload one on top of another and they just chuck it on top of other packages. That's what happens when you contract out your work. Just to give you an idea how this happens....its not on purpose and not always under control by the usps but there the ones responsible no matter what at the end of the day.

Funny how we have to purchase insurance to ensure they do their jobs
and even then things like this happen!! Sad!

Yes the Box was re-userd once , I sent it to him and he sent it to me . I agree on the plastic PVC is best .

As far a USPO , I think if we could find some one that cares , it would be a mirical . I talk to the people at my 3 closest P.O.'s and it like take it to the complaint department , which they don't have .

If you do have a problem and do have insurance , sometimes proving a value on a object is a real hassel , and if you do get any compensation , it takes 6 months , if you are luckey . But after everything I said , It's the best we have . That's scarry sometimes . Jim

But you do have choices!!! FEDEX and UPS have tons of people who care and are hungry for your business. If you are unhappy with usps customer service then I would strongly suggest using them. The postal service was never meant to handle packages that need special care and are worth thousands of dollars...thats what fedex and ups specialize in and there prices are very cheap:wink:. And there claims department is top notch and they give you your money back with hardly any questions asked...there the best

I hear a lot of horror stories with UPS and Fed-x also .

One other thing is Return mail . I ship 15 to 20+ items per week , cues , J/ps , Jewelry my wife does , and custom Ink pens . I put a return address on Everything , and the USPO has never returned 1 single item . I have had 10 to 15 items never received , but Never returned . UPS did return a worm bin that was to be delivered to Colo . The people moved and did not change there address in Paypal . Its a night mare .

carpet roll tub

Jim
I go down to the carpet store and get the heavy wall carboard tub that comes in the middle of a carpet roll out of the trash.....................................

Its free and very strong. I just take a hand saw and a tape measure cut them in half if I am in my car , then cut them to lenth at home on my coumpound miter.

watch for staples...............................

The guys at my post office tell me all the time not to write fragile on the box, just for that reason.
I don't know too much about the inner workings of a post office, but from my experience the people on the "bulk mail" side are nasty.
The bulk mail department is also who you have to deal with on insurance claims and good luck with that.
My one & only insurance claim with USPS was really distasteful.
They cratered an It's George case, and the women in the bulk mail department literally ripped it out of my arms with I brought it in, was mean as hell, and if she had been a guy I would of knocked her out.
5-months later I was paid, only because I called the main 1-800 number and complained about this person.

There is a lot of underlying discontent at the USPS, and I think it's created by untrained and unprofessional supervisors that do not know how to manage people.
The good news is that you don't have to work for the post office to go postal, and I got that directly from a postal worker.

I worked around jet aircraft in the USAF, always amazed me that they actually flew.

I got a cue back from a cuemaker once in a triangle box sorta like that one. The cue was in a cloth sleeve and the box was sorta packed with a few newspaper wads. The cue had come out of the sleeve and all the newspaper had settled at one end, and the cue was just rattling around in the box...which was really beat up had a big hole in it. Amazingly, the cue was still in the box and wasn't damaged, but I sent the cuemaker a photo of it. Some time later, he sent me another cue packaged in a pvc tube in a triangle box packed like Ft. Knox! Between stupidity and the post office, I felt extremely lucky.
:D

The USPS triangles are paper. Using those are asking for problems. It's the shippers responsibility to package the item correctly. FedX, UPS, USPS manhandle the goods. Use a rigid tube.
