wow, that is some great cocobolo. i can't wait to see that in a cue. how long before it's dry enough?

guy

i don't know for sure.i usually try to buy all kiln dried wood, but this is air dried so i will actually let it sit for close to a year and then round it.after it's round i will be able to figure out if it's ready or not.my guess would be 14-16 months.

Beautiful wood, This is the right place for it to be appreciated. Unless they come up with a new section for Cue makers only, Now wouldn't that be the shinizzle.:D

Freakish Cocobola

Think you need to mail that picture to Websters so they can put in the the dictionary next to the term flame cocobola.

then how would us cue buyers bug the shit out you cuemakers?

btw..nice wood mason.....I'm thinking a piece of the really flame section for a forearm, with maybe a smaller piece for a butt, and perhaps something like quilted maple for a handle.....wait already have one of those...hmmmm

exactly what i was thinking or maybe Birdseye or Olive or Satinwood or etc.i am hoping that when i start turning it the figure doesn't disappear.

maybe forearm/butt crazy coco and then something like a blackish wood other than ebony for a handle...ebony to me always feels dead.

I know it never sounds right when one man compliments another man's wood, but that's 2 AWESOME pieces of wood!!!!!! Especially how the 2 pieces match, too bad you can't glue them together and make the forearm out of the center of them, that would be a great natural design.
Enjoy,
Dave

Mason, be careful with that stuff. Any time you get wood in that is smothered in wax, it's a fair chance that it is not dry. It also will not dry well until it is wax free. However, once you remove the wax, expect some cracking & splitting. Be very careful of this stuff & keep a close eye on it. I have lost many good chunks of wood because I never handled it correctly. Kiln drying that stuff would have split & cracked it almost certainly. That's likely why it was set aside & waxed instead. Beautiful stuff, but be very cautious.

yes,it is only air dried and porbably not vey well and i expect to wait a year on it.i scrape the wax off the sides about 6" long and let it dry slowly form those bare spots.in other words i scrape off about a 3rd of the wax from the sides and i will let it sit for a year.i usually try to buy all of my stuff totally dry or at least under 10-12% so it just has to sit for a little while, but i had to have these pieces.

It doesn't look like cocobolo to me at all. I would swear it were desert Ironwood. It's incredible...

Do you have any pictures of the other ends of the pieces ?

Don't even take a cance of the flame disappearing when you turn it. Just hang it on a wall as an art object. Gorgeous!
