Earl made the classic mistake of leaving the ball in the center of the table as his last ball.
It's easier to fall into that trap on small tables or on big tables that don't blast apart. These IPT slow cloth tables, they never really break apart, so that ball in the center of the table becomes a big problem, even for the pros. Normally, their skill lets them shoot through the issues.
