free tAR vs PPV tAR

My bandwidth averages around 2.0Mbps. Yet when I watch the free stream, it is still too choppy for me to enjoy it.
I think that most of the 400-500 people viewing the free stream at any given time are like me in that they are just checking it out to see how well it works.

Have you tried setting the buffering to max on the menu? I was having really choppy audio and a helpful chatroom person made that suggestion. Audio is now perfect, and with few exceptions the matches are smooth. Still it's not perfect, you can tell on high spin shots that the framerate is not super high, but it's very watchable and much improved to no buffering.

I think everyone has missed the big, I mean small, picture here. Internet streaming has not been perfected. There are too many bottlenecks out there. For example, I have fiber running right to the back of my house. My bandwidth averages around 2.0Mbps. Yet when I watch the free stream, it is still too choppy for me to enjoy it.

I think that it is not fair to compare streaming PPV with other formats such as tv PPV.
TAR is doing good to keep revenue flowing with the DVDs, advertising, and other merchandise. It would be unwise for any company to rely heavily on streaming as primary income because it just is not good enough yet.
I think that TAR is doing a great job. There is a donation link right on their home page at http://www.theactionreport.com . I say keep the free stream as a "test bed" and allow people to donate at will. I think they will get better feedback concerning the technical stuff this way.

The PPV is 10 times better than the free. So that excuse won't hold water. Johnnyt

Maybe charge less like $5 for a live feed and if 500 people are willing to pay it TAR ends up with $2500. I would gladly pay to have the PPV streaming video as opposed to the free streaming video.

What kind of numbers does the other feed get from the DCC website?

I have to throw my two cents into this thread. I was finally able to meet Justin and Chad this past weekend when I headed down to the Derby. I introduced myself to Justin and in no time struck up a great conversation and told me to head down to the TAR booth anytime I wanted. I headed down to the booth saturday night and before I knew Chad invited me into the booth to help commentate the Tater vs. Josh O'Neil match. These guys are absolute gentlemen and want nothing but to help promote the sport of billiards. I know there will always be more people watching the free feed and I know charging for the free feed would drop the numbers of viewers, but I witnessed just part of what these guys to have set up and do in order to bring us this amazing opportunity. I urge everyone to help support TAR in ANY WAY POSSIBLE. This could be in the form of ordering shirts, PPV's, DVD's or simply a donation. I can say whole heartedly and with confidence that these guys are not out for themselves in anyway except the joy of seeing everyone being able to enjoy some great pool and action. Please consider a donation or purchase of any kind, keep these guys going and continue to support them in their future ventures.

PS TAR, if you guys need help setting things up here in Columbus at the BCA's, let me know, i'd be more than happy to donate my time.

Man, tAR missed the boat. They should have held the PPV either Monday night or tonight. We're back to 500+ viewers tonight. Ah, the luck.

What an odd coincidence that the people that were available for the free feeds over the last few days (which consistently drew 500 viewers) all had prior commitments for tonight's PPV feed (which peaked at 58 viewers as the 10B began).

It's too bad all 440 of those people missed the opportunity to donate their measly $10 to the tAR cause. Oh well, I'm sure Chad & Justin are more than happy to continue negotiating the rights to haul in & set up all that equipment and establish the video service with the hotel & their ISP. From what I can see, they have strong backs.

Hey, they've made something like $600 so far. Surely that's covered their living expenses for the last few days, the cost of all that fancy equipment, the cost of the PPV feed,...,etc.

where can i learn more about when these live feeds are? what time zone is it in? don't feel like blowing cash for something ive already misse

they should have had a match people wanted to watch no one will cross the street to watch those two play

In my opinion there is NO viable excuse for not buying the TAR ppv even if you can't watch it. I believe I OWE them. It's just plain cheap to not support them and their efforts to bring the very best pool to starving pool fans.

I bought the ppv, but never saw a place that said how many were watching.

Good thing it's your opinion and you're intitled to it. But thanks for trying to use your opinion to guilt others into spending money, ever thought of becoming a tv evangalist?

it says how many are in the chat box at the top of the list of people, on the right. there may have been one or two that didn't log in to the chat box but still were watching, but i doubt it was any more than one or two.

he has a point though even though it does sound preachy. they're putting a hell of a lot of effort into providing a service that many people want - there's been well over a thousand people watching the free feed sometimes for how many days now. and everybody there has a good time, TAR have kept things fun with the people in the booth.

even if you didn't fancy watching the match between sarah and monica, 10 dollars is NOTHING. and this is coming from somebody who is currently jobless. i've spent more than that on a couple of bus tickets and a mcdonalds burger earlier today. for what they're providing us and the effort they're making i think a lot more people should have coughed up.

The SPCA, Doctors without Borders, Habitat for Humanity and all sorts of organizations provide a great service as well, the thing is it's really a personal choice for people to support these organizations.

I'd also like to point out that TAR has not solicited for any support themselves, why should people not involved with them feel it's thier responsibility to harangue and guilt people into donating money.

If you want to see more pool live and you watch the free streaming I feel you should buy the PPV or a dvd or something else from them. Being that your on AZ I have to assume your a pool player. Johnnyt

By that line of thinking IPT streams live pool video, am I then obligated to support them too?
