Frost v SVB on a small table??

I always like seeing the better players match up in events like this, but why play it on a small table? I understand that your stroke has to be a little different and that there are some nuances of a small table, but it seems more like Nascar guys racing on a go cart track, or pro golfers facing off on a par 3 course. I would much rather see them play on a big table that magnifies their mistakes. I think that does a better job of showing who the better player is. I would think that the better small table player would just be the guy who plays more in bars on those types of tables. I would love to hear some insight though from others, as I spend very little time on small tables.

I think this will be awesome, total offense with a bunch of packages. Scott is a great bar table player even though I rarely see him play on them, should be a great match. I think Shane would be a favorite on the big track capable of giving up a ball to Scott but on the small table it is going to be pretty even money so I am guessing that is why they are playing on it.

Bar Table 9 ball at this level is a game all its own. Mistakes are magnified MORE because if you give up the table it is entirely within the realm of possibility to lose 5-10 games before you shoot again.

These guys are going to run a lot of racks. It is all offense all the time. Shane has already said he thinks he will run a 15 pack during the set. It sure isn't one pocket on a quintuple shimmed gaffe table, it is bar box pool. Just like the pool the vast majority of people in this country play every week.

Anyone who plays in a bar table 9 ball league will be able to see very easily what the difference is between mortal beings and these monsters.

I agree, the toy box is a real equalizer and the big tables really show whose skill level might be a little better. From what I hear, Scott has had Shanes number on the box so why would he even consider anything else if Shane is willing to do the bar box thing? I think this will be a good old dog fight and a blast to watch

When I saw the posting about this match on the TAR web site, I thought EXACTLY the same thing! I'm a big TAR supporter, but bar box 9-ball is like shooting fish in a barrel, and I don't think I can bring myself to watch it. In stark contrast, the SVB v Alex P 10-ball race to 100 is the best pool I've seen in my life, and everyone should have a copy!!!

I would be interested to see the results of a poll on what size table people would like to see matches played on. You know what my vote would be.

I can see your point but speaking from personal experience watching these two guys play on a bar box is just plain fun. All balls, no guts no glory, no one gets out alive, run out pool.

I really think if you give it a chance you will like it if for no other reason than to watch The Freezer's interviews. :D

Seeing pros playing on a barbox is something to behold to be sure. We've all seen GREAT barbox players string 5-6-7-whatever packs, but with the skill level of these two it wouldn't be an exception (it's the norm for them). I love seeing the way they think in situations where I'd play safe, and they go for it.

Going for it IS exciting, and I disagree with the mini-golf comparison....more like the former Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (where pros go REALLY low, like Duval's 59 years ago) vs. a tough US Open set-up (where PAR for the week can win it). Personally I think it'd be cool to see more of this type of thing instead of ALWAYS seeing (still using the golf anology) a tough course.

I'm not saying 50/50, just would like to see them matching up this way occasionally. Seeing them play flawlessly on a tight 9 foot Diamond is SICK too (reminding me of how much I SUCK!!!), but seeing the best in the world on the small track is a very cool change of pace (now and then).

It's going to be played on a Diamond Box, so a 15 pack will be a little tough. These will be two of the few people who can do it though in a race like this. I can't wait to watch.

On a 9 foot Daimond Scott is just a little bit outmatched I think.

TAR is evgidently asking $25 for all three days.. Yes, I want to watch, but don't/won't do paypal. I plan on calling Tuesday the 7th, see if I can arrange another method of paying.

First of all, anyone who plays both on 4 1/2 X 9's and a Bar Box understands the varied skills needed for both. Comments that knock the talent and expertise needed to prevail against top talent on the BB just flat don't know squat, and they don't know they don't know ! Almost all top BB players hone their skills in 14.1 , Nine Ball, and One Pocket. The few monsters that didn't were the exception. These two World Champs are the rule !

For the record, Scott has won every time he has matched up with SVB on a BB in the past. At the same time, Shane is definitely ready for anything as an Open Nine Ball Champ, a BB Eight Ball Champ, and a former 15 pack runner on the small table. Bet it the way you see it, but either way you won't have a big edge. Kudos to TAR for sponsoring it. I will be glued to the screen for all three days...Tom

A diamond bar box isn't like the normal valley-eat-up-anything-close bar box table. Yet,the diamond bar box it isn't anything like the 9ft diamonds at Big Dogs that only accept perfectly hit balls, they still won't accept balls that hit the second diamond down the rail and still go in!

I am excited to see the massive offensive show to be put on by both players.

Most of the pool being played in Des Moines is on bar tables which Scott grew up on so alot of the home town people can relate.

I recall that TAR had a FREE BB match on the stream and there were 500+ viewers watching it at one point, so there must be some folks that will sit at there PC for hours and watch BB action. Now that it's PPV we get all this neg BS about bar boxes. Johnnyt

JCIN;

FYI... I would prepay and buy the DVD as well as the PPV for a Bowman V SVB barbox 8-ball matchup... winner breaks
now that would be an offensive battle that might not take 3 days to get to 150..

Yep... that would be great, I would personally love to see the winner of the Shane and Scott match play Jesse. Perhaps then the winner of this match can play David Matlock (I didn't say it would happen, but I'd love to see it).
